I think a reasonable trade could be:

O'Reilly, McCabe and the SJ 2019 1st rd pick

for

Pachs, #3 OA

With #3 OA I take Tkachuk, not Zadina

I don't know how many times I am going to have to post this.

Tampa Bay was 27th in faceoff wins.
Colorado was 31st
Vegas was 22nd
Capitals 13th

Buffalo was 7th
Carolina was 1st

There are certain scenarios where winning a FO is important.

Over the course of the season, winning faceoffs and driving possession do not correlate in the slightest.

Then you get a guy like Paul Gaustad that can take faceoffs.

Every team has their faceoff guy. Eichel will be ours in 1-2 years.

- ImThatGuy

I'd like to believe that...but it is pure conjecture based on a hopeful feeling.
He doesn't need to be a beast himself...just get over the 50% hump, even slightly.
I think it is more important for the D-wizzard center to be the beast.

I'm pretty sure possession is 9/10ths of the law...

And also being in possession of the puck is pretty important to score or not allow a score but... that's just me.

If Faceoffs don’t matter,
Why does EVERY SINGLE COACH IN HISTORY put his best faceoff guy out there in key situations?

This BS that it doesn’t matter is exactly that,

I was originally replying to the question of “how we’d improve this year without trading a core player?”

I agree with planning to Contend for the Cup in the future
But at pick 11, (if that was the main piece we get for ROR), that guy could just end up as Girgs or Grigo
It’s not nearly enough of a return imo
And like i said,
the additional decent roster player- those guys can be picked up UFA
And “b” prospects are usually more of a miss than a hit as well

Trade O’Reilly... fine
It just has to bring back AT LEAST a guy who we are pretty confident will be a “core piece”

I’VE SAID THIS ABOUT 50 GODDAMN TIMES

3 of the 4 finalists all were 50% FO or less.

Two of those teams were in the bottom 5 of the league.

Pierre Dorion asked about the fourth overall pick and the decision to keep it or hand it to Colorado: "Most likely we'll be keeping the pick and picking at No. 4."

Dorion also said "I promise the fans that this team will be greatly improved next season."

Weird.....

We have a Goalie?

- CoHo_to_B-Lo

We have Ullmark, and the presumption is obviously that we are bringing in someone to pair with him

Does our lineup for next year have to be set in stone by today?
Didn’t think so...

Waive em, trade, get rid of em. Bailey, O'Regan, Baptiste, Pu (almost made the team last year), wildcard Olofsson plus cheap FAs, use 32, Nylander, McCabe/Scandella or SJS 1st for a left wing

Let the kids play

Sign Bernier to split with Ullmark

Sure... it’s hard to keep possession when u have scrub defensemen that just get pressured & dump the puck out to Center ice, or make a bad pass & turn it over

Don’t ya think Dahlin, Guhle & Nelson will help that?
I think they will, quite a bit
I thought it would be an obvious thing that almost all of us agreed on?

There's no statistical proof that shows, over the course of a season, that the amount of FOs you win determines the amount of games you win.
- TheSabresTaco

And there never has been, ever. And there are multiple articles written on it.

HOW ARE WE BACK TO THIS SILLY ARGUMENT

He MIGHT start there,
but I’m pretty sure he will be a regular for us at some point this year
Guhle is gonna be a good player
And his style is EXACTLY what Botts & Housley want
