TSN has us taking Boqvist in their mock - CanuckDon
For what its worth to your bet, Pronman did a mock draft and had Dobson at 9th, Boqvist 11th
He also had Vancouver taking Tkachuk at #7:
Many Canucks fans will likely be clamoring for a defenseman at this spot, but I can’t see them passing up either Tkachuk or Wahlstrom, barring a trade down. Both are considered top-tier talents per the industry and would be good value at this slot. |

Thanks for the great read!
"As expected, we see Jesperi Kotkaniemi surge into the top five"
Doesn't make sense. The top of the draft is about offence. He's just not in the same class as the other players atop the draft. I know there's a lot of talk about drafting positionally, but if a Top 8 team is taking Kotakaniemi, they're trading down to do it.
tier 1:
1. BUF> Rasmus Dahlin, D
tier 2:
2. CAR> Andrei Svechnikov, RW
tier 3:
3. MON> Filip Zadina, RW
4. OTT> Quinn Hughes, D
5. ARI> Oliver Wahlstrom, C/RW
tier 4:
6. DET> Adam Boqvist, D
7. VAN> Evan Bouchard, D
8. CHI> Brady Tkachuk, LW/C
tier 5:
9. NYR> Noah Dobson, D
10. EDM> Ty Smith, D
11. NYI> Joe Veleno, C
12. NYI> Jesperi Kotkaniemi, C
"I feel like this is good news for the Canucks, who didn't seem to have Kotkaniemi on their radar in any meaningful way."
Good point. I really hope he does shoot up. And Tkachuck. Hope Wahlstrom drops and plays centre for Pettersson. Grab the No1 defender in the following draft, maybe that's left-shot Mikko Kokkonen.
There were 40 prospects who were taller than Wahlstrom at the combine, but only 4 were heavier. He's probably the most NHL-ready body in the draft, a bull with a Beoser-like shot, and rather likes to play centre when not on a line with 2019-draft-eligible phenom Jack Hughes.
"McKenzie has Noah Dobson at six, Evan Bouchard at seven, Quinn Hughes at eight and Adam Boqvist at 10."
Doesn't that seem a bit out to lunch to anyone else?
He places the guy with least offenseive upside right there at the top of the draft... Who does that??? Garth Snow maybe.
The only team that might hold their pick and draft out of their tier is probably Arizona, because they could really use a good local story to sell to the disinterested fanbase; the marketing value of Tkachuk is a real thing. And according to public draft boards, at Five he's not much of a reach if at all.
"I wouldn't be surprised to see Zadina and Tkachuk slide down the board. Should the Canucks diverge from their plan if one or both are available in the seven spot?"
If Zadina or any Tier Three prospects are available at Seven then it's celebration time.
Tkachuk "would bring an element of grit that's in pretty short supply on the Canucks roster"
Gadvojich is on the way, who's junior coach said "I've never seen him lose a fight". He'll be our Reaves soon. And if no one does anything stupid, Tryamkin should be back in a Canucks uniform in 2020. As for 2018-19, seems a stop gap is in order.
Would be better served drafting Bouchard or higher from my list above. |

The beauty of this draft is there are a number of very good players listed out of the top 10 so the hindsight crowd can hate Benning even more next year when a star emerges |

Dobson - vanilla. Lol - CanuckDon
I need to hang my hat on something.
Dobson is too safe with too low of a ceiling for my taste. |

some believe Melnyk relishes the opportunity to get to the cap floor and just see how things go, there is no sense in spending and wasting money if you are not going to be a contending team
Dreger
Someone better remind Genie there that the Avs have their first rounder next year.
Oh, and nuking your own fan base generally doesn't end well when you're hoping voters stan for a free arena for you. |

Weisbrod: "It comes down to the assets you have & how desirable they are on the open market. You get in a position where the only players you can get quality picks for are young & important to our future. Jim is constantly working to get picks, but it's harder and harder to do."

Okay, Weisbrod then why the (frank) do you guys keep trading picks for other teams’ scraps? |

Whoever told management they could trick over half the fanbase with the 'draft picks is hard' spiel desrves to run the franchise, not Trevor.
After the TDL someone did a thing about pick movement and basically teams are throwing them around as willy nilly as ever since the cap in 2005. |

Michael Kempny, Brandon Davidson got a 3rd rounders. Brandon Bollig and an AHL goalie got a 5th rounder. Crap defenceman who can barely complete a pass like Joe Morrow and Mike Reilly got 4th rounders. Eric Fehr played in the AHL this year and got a pick in return.
But hey, the Canucks couldn't have gotten any picks for any of their tradebait. But at least they got the AHL forward their scouting staff has been jizzing over since the Kesler trade. |

The funny thing about this whole crap was he says other teams don't want our players while Jim is sitting down trying to extend them. |
