Not even Jake Virtanen at #6 or OJ at #5?.
I think they're the only mistakes Benning has made since taking over, myself.
Other than that, he's done a good job to be fair. They've managed to remain competitive while rebuilding. A feat not to be taken lightly. (Imo) - walshyleafsfan
Bennings list of mistakes is long and deep. Jim is a dimwit but that's beside the point.
I do laugh though when I see a team dig their feet in the sand and refuse to trade for the one player that paired well with their best Dman so they can draft Akil Thomas at 25 th spot.
Tanev will probably play 70 games this year and another year will pass as you wait for your prospects to play
I don't care who takes him but I know some team , sometime this year will offer a decent return for Tanev. I am patient |

I agree that some team will take Tanev. It's a bit of a cat and mouse situation. Do you wait till the deadline (when he'll be injured) for a higher price? Or do you move late in the summer when a GM hasn't checked HockeyDB for the amount of games he's missed?
It'll be interesting to see how Jim approaches it. I wouldn't also rule out extending Chris because he's such an important player for the Nucks.
I haven't seen anything to suggest Chris will play the most amount of games he's ever played in the NHL in one season (70) in the upcoming year. He seems to be decreasing the amount of games he plays year after year - 70,69,53,42.
Could he be in the 30's this season?
I wish Jim the best of luck in his trade return. |

Well Tanev last year at TDL was shut down on purpose to help the team tank (which they didn't) and to give him time to recover from the year.
The puck to the face was a fluke and probably wont happen again. The rest were legit . He broke his leg.
I prefer trading Tanev at TDL. Value will increase. OJ will get experience with his leadership.More teams bidding. |

Mistake? I think he just turned 20 five weeks ago and he's a mistake? There may be better players taken after him, Sergachev, but that hardly makes him a mistake.
Virtanen was a clear mistake, no question!! |

Jake's development was a mistake , I want to see how he does this year. At times last year he was the best player on the ice. |

Picking him was also a mistake imo, professional scouts should've seen his non-existent hockey IQ. He was only successful because of his speed and size in junior, you have to think the game better at the NHL level. Which he'll never do. |

Sam Bennet , MDC , Fluery Ritchie Reinhart . Wasn't a lot to pick from (Hindsight)
Again lets see how he does this year |

Every year there's that guy, just so happened it was him but ya it was slim pickins.
Nylander and Ehlers were the obvious better choices. I remember wanting Sanheim in a trade back scenario, but was told to shutup
Edit: but for the record, when they picked him I was happy because they need a heavy player like him...little did I know, I'm an idiot! |

They weren't obvious. I don't see Nylander as a great pick in fact I would not be surprised to see his numbers fall this year.
You have to remember for years this team was and still is cream puffs. One of their top concerns was grit.
Canucks basically drafted an 18 year old to fight their battles . That usually doesn't end well

See above, I edited. They drafted him for his size not his skill, Ehlers was way more skilled. That said, the scouting organizations all had him about where he was taken, well except Button. He hated him and now we know why |

We got our Ehlers 3 years later. You get one top pick a year . You need to fix holes . I know blah blah blah
Jake has improved every year and EP is now ready to play and hopefully OJ |

Ehlers had a great regular season. I heard people complain he didn't go to the net in the playoffs.
Canucks had the best team in the world for regular seasons for a stretch of time but couldn't get it finished in the playoffs. We know all about those type of players |

I think he'll be fine, he had his moments where he's looked good. He's a north south individual guy though, he'll make good exciting plays but he does it all on his own with his rushes. |

Meh...he's a young kid and it was his first playoff experience, hardly enough to pass judgment on him.
Jake will be a good third line winger who pitches in with 20 goals 40 points, nothing wrong with that. I wish he was mean and could fight though, he'd be more effective. |

Yes it was. He argued with me insistently on how much better MDC was than Draisaitl.😂 |

He’s fast he hits hard and he is getting better. With enough minutes he could hit 50 points. |
