He did.

You can't really say you trust professional talent evaluators, the only public rankings are the ones made up by guys who aren't employed by NHL teams lol.

Except for McKenzie's list, which again is only a consensus of like 6-7 scouts. And that doesn't mean much since one professional scout could have Boqvist ranked 5th and one could have him ranked 11th. I doubt there's many prospects on that list that all 6 scouts have ranked in the exact same spot....

Same with Keller, I bet at least one professional scout in the NHL had him ranked higher than consensus so your "I only trust pro scouts" mentality doesn't make sense lol.

Central scouting. Also, Bob isn't only person who looks at scouting lists. Kimmelman does as well as Dobber. Those and Bob are sources I tend to lean on, but yes there is a fair amount of noise out there for sure.

I blame Edmonton, LA, and SJ for all sandbagging one season together giving the Canucks the 2nd seed in the Pacific which started this false belief they had more playoff runs in them. They should've missed and dealt Vrbata that offseason and looked at cashing in on a few others the following year
- WhiteLie

The top line basically carried the team that year. Sedins had 70+ points each and Vrbata had 31 goals.

Next highest point guy was Bonino with 39 lol.

When you get carried into the playoffs by 33 year olds and the rest of your team is full of role players, it's probably time to wonder what exactly your future is and prepare for it.

This is so true. Should have been pretty obvious after getting just handled by a mediocre Calgary team though

Central scouting isn't employed by NHL teams, but yeah they are technically professionals. Fair enough.

Bob's list has been pretty mediocre/safe, it's a good list for the average fan to look at. I don't like the idea of just blindly putting faith into the consensus of 7-8 scouts. We don't even know which teams these guys scout for. Imagine if one of these guys is Ron Delorme lol.

And 7-8 scouts is a ridiculously small sample size out of the entire NHL's scouting staff. Each team likely has at least that many scouts employed for them so you're getting like 1/31th of a sample there.

Bob's list has some value, but it's far from the draft bible.

Blob Mackenzie lost all credibility with me when he said the Steckel hit on Crosby's head was a clean check. Haven't bothered with the goof since.

Oh for sure. NHL central scouting IMO is on it. That's numero uno for me. Bob is there. After that, I follow Dobber because they consistently accurately predict based on sources they seem to have built up (Im guessing they get a lot of scouts' lists/reviews). The proof is in the pudding. But the whole fun of the draft is: no one knows, because so much factors into them actually being able to take the next big step.

The Canucks lost the (frank)ing possession battle to Calgary like 53-47 or something. Which in a vacuum is no big deal in a playoff series, tbh.

BUT that Calgary series the Twins were at like 70% possession while basically the rest of the team was sub 40 and whoever was out with Sbisa-Bieksa was basically 30%.

But hey, there were no warning signs that year was all smoke and mirrors. - Donny and Moj

(frank) off with the hindsight BS. Keller was my guy at 5. This is why you people drive me crazy with your consensus based rankings.
- DrChristianTroy

We should have take Mcavoy. Guy is proving to be top pairing. and he is a RHD.

I don't think you or the welder are grasping the tweet. Yes it's a generic statement about acquiring picks, but it's not a Wilson vs Benning tweet.

It's simply stating Benning hasn't added picks to the organization when he probably should be.

- LeftCoaster

But Benning has added quality players that fill the age gap, thus accelerating the rebuild by years.

The fact that it's even a comparison at all is the sadder part.

One team has been to a SCF during that span and made the playoffs 3 out of 4 years.

The other team has made the playoffs once, and has been a bottom feeder during the last 3 years. Benning's net draft pick haul shouldn't be compared to Wilson's, and if it's even close than that's pretty sad for Benning.

Canucks draft pick haul over the last 4 years should be compared to teams like Florida, Colorado, Dallas, New Jersey, Edmonton, etc.

- Nucker101

I'd say our draft pick haul and prospect cupboards compare favorably to those teams.

Benning is number one in your eyes!

This should put to rest any chance of us drafting Boqvist:

“He’s a good player in his own right,” said Benning. “Other guys just have a more well-rounded game.”

- CanuckDon

Benning wants a safe player.

In 10 years boqvist will have twice as many points in the nhl.. .. or won't have played a game.

From Elliot:

There is word today that Artemi Panarin has told CLB that he is not ready to consider an extension “at this time.” (UFA July 2019.) As a result, the Blue Jackets are testing the market for him.

So it's between Boqvist, Dobson and Bouchard.
