Its absurd how underpaid McDavid is. Did his team a favour on cap hit and his GM used that favour to make his team terrible.

San Jose cleard 4 mil of cap for two years (Kovalchuk/Tavares) and got 4 or 5 draft picks and a prospect by middle-man-ing a player with huge baggage.

That's a massive win.

I agree it's a huge win, but I'll take Hoffman over cap space myself. SJ doesn't need him as they have a glut of talent and want JT. I am actually in the minority of thinking JT is going to leave, but then again these guys have so much pride in playing for one team... hard to say!

If I were him I'd go to somewhere with better D and G situation than the isles.

I'd take cap space and draft picks over Hoffman, then go big game hunting for someone who didn't put their Richard in crazy and leave it there.

12.5 or whatever is fine for now. Its the fact he gave up UFA years 5 years down the line. He'll be surpassed by the 2024 versions of less good than him guys and then still have 3 years before getting a proper contract.

Hockey culture and "Being a good hockey guy"ism has enough dumb appeal to trick him into staying for sure.

Then 3 years from now he'll be in the middle of an 8 year deal and still finishing 8 points out of the playoffs.
