Just trying to fit in with all of the other armchair GM offers I've seen in here today.

I thought ROR was a decent 2-way center who can put up decent numbers and help on both ends of special teams. I didn't know he was a generational superstar.

You don't fire Phil to take a shot at getting Trotz. It's almost a lock that he knows where he wants to go already. If you fire Phil and lose Trotz, you have an unfathomable mess on your hands and you're paying 3 head coaches next season.
- Lunaion

Well... you can always drill another well. Paying coaches who aren't here is like you or me losing $1.24.

Well I’m sure we’d know whether or not we could get Trotz

I didn’t say we should fire Housley for just a shot at getting him

I'm putting the shoe on the other foot, that's all.

I don't care how bad you need a center.

If the Sabres had the #2 two pick this year, and traded it for ROR, that team's first next year and a prospect that half the league is down on, we'd burn the Sabres offices to the ground. That's the point I'm making. Carolina isn't trading that pick

- Powerslave

Do you think the Sabres are a bottom 5 team this year?

He doesn’t?
They keep letting him make dumbass trades

And i heard the VAN GM day he’s not trading #7,
but it’s curious that the pick is listed on the TSN trade board
Must be some chatter behind the scenes

Obviously i don’t KNOW what teams will do
But with those 2 picks,
there’s at least reasons to think “maybe?”

- jdfitz77

I think you're trying too hard to turn 'almost impossible' and 'extremely unlikely' into 'maybe'. You would never make those moves from the other team's shoes, and you tend to overvalue our guys.

Yup.

He is making 5.75M for 1 year. He has 2 30 goal seasons under his belt which is impressive.

But what does that mean he's going to ask for in UFA or an extension... I bet he'd be looking for a 5x7 AAV at minimum or a 7x7 with him being 26 years old. He has a better scoring record than Kane by far.

I really don't want that player on that deal as my long term 1LW. I just don't.

- JVince11

Alright let’s roll out a LW lineup consisting of an unproven Nylander that can’t even produce in the AHL, Scott Wilson, Girgensons, and Olofsson/Smith who can make an impact but don’t have experience in the NHL yet. Bailey can potentially play LW but asking too much of him is dangerous. We don’t need to pay anyone anything and we’ll pick top 5 again next year.

They'd be moving out ROR for Svech and probably signing a goalie, and probably a Pouliot type or two

doesn’t mean they think we should play Girgs at LW1 this year either

These are just silly. For a generational talent like Ryan "Tim Horton" O'Reilly, you need to get good value, not these throw-away deals. I see only 3 possible destinations:

To Edmonton - Ryan O'Reilly, 2045 5th rounder
To Buffalo - Connor McDavid, Jesse Puljujarvi, 2018 and 2019 1st rounder

To Toronto - Ryan O'Reilly, 2038 3rd rounder
To Buffalo - Austin Matthews, William Nylander, 2018-2022 1st rounders

To Pittsburgh - Ryan O'Reilly
To Buffalo - Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel, 2019 1st rounder, 2019 2nd rounder

I mean, as you can see, you're never going to win a deal when you're trading Ryan "better than Gretzky" O'Reilly, but these are about as close to fair value as you'll get.

You're welcome.

I wish my mom folded my laundry. I'm down with washing dishes and vacuuming, can't stand folding clothes.

Look, I don't have a problem with you standing on my lawn to see who I live with, I just wish you'd keep your damn pants on while you do it.

If that's all Botts does, then yeah, we're a bottom 5 team again, and looking for a coach and gm again, and WITHOUT a first round pick next year.

Okay, bonus round: Buffalo retains -50% of ROR's cap hit, gaining them an extra $3.75M in cap space.

How much do you think Neal and JVR are going to get on the open market ? The going rate for a 1st LW is 7M whether it’s Skinner or anyone else.

I feel like I've been in the minority on here that continuously pines for a defensive minded center to come in here to protect CM. It needs to happen if (when) he is traded. CM will not be able to handle full-time 2C duties, along with dzone play, pk and faceoffs.
- TheSabresTaco

I took ALOT of poop on here for suggesting the Sabres retain ROR for one, one more year. So, welcome tot he club.
We all know that Mitts is talented, we should be able to throw him out there and he will be great.

My man... trust me... I know how utterly pathetic our LW depth is.

I am in the boat of trading ROR for a LW would create too much of a whole at 2C that Casey cannot fulfill yet though.

I think that we can easily still trade for a LW with other depth on our team such as McCabe, Nylander, Nelson, Borgen, Pu, Olofsson, 2 1sts next year, and 32nd OA this year.
