With ROR being such a large asset, I don't think he's traded even with the chance of a rental coming back. Skinner is on a NMC, so he'd have to agree (and in turn be willing to sign) to come to Buffalo. My guess would be that he signs an extension right after July 1.
- TheSabresTaco

Probably, and with Skinner having a "down year", maybe he get's 6 instead of 7. Which would be ideal.

I think this is the overwhelming majority, not the minority.

I dunno, I had to argue about it the other day at length because some folks think he's fully ready so on and so forth. Perhaps.

Good move for him.

He can now go somewhere get paid handsomely and get another shot at a cup.

Heading to Long Island maybe?

I don't know, you should ask him. He was the one that said it.

He was the on that said "Coming into this season i was lost"

- ImThatGuy

When you have a dozen microphones in your face and reporters saying, "So what went wrong? what went wrong?" you might not always have an answer when put on the spot like that. He said what every player was feeling, he just shouldn't have said it to the media. But if you're going to run him out of town for having an honest opinion, you need to run the entire team out of town as well.

We had believed Trotz was a free agent this summer. That’s not correct. There was a two-year extension if he won the Cup in WASH. But, as coaches’ contracts have exploded in value, it was below the current market. Both sides tried to negotiate an extension....

But they could not come to terms. Trotz is now a free agent, as WASH will grant permission to other teams who want to talk to him. 3/3

Sorry, but it's very bad analysis to base or judge players off of basic counting stats. It's been proven over and over.

Like Pegulaville stated, O'Reilly's ice time adds up to multiple, additional games he's playing more than Skinner is.

And before you mention it

Ozone starts

Skinner - 459
O'Reilly - 484

O'Reilly is given more offensive opportunities than Skinner, and it isn't close with PP time

- sbroads24

I don't care. Jeff Skinner has played in this league for 8 years. His high score is 63 points. Could he have a better year next to Eichel? Sure. But he's not gonna turn into a perennial 90 point player.

At some point, guys are who they are. Skinner's high score is 63. ROR's is 64.

Skinner is not this amazing, underutilized player. He's a one-dimensional scorer, which is fine! But, man, you're acting like we're missing out on Kucherov

I love the fact that we all came to this site because some random anonymous dude was spewing off bogus rumors and now we all jump down each others throat for doing the same thing. I also love the fact that we have guys like 89 who bring what seems to be legit info to the table we have guys jumping down his throat. Whether it is BS or not, it is fun to talk about and are always good conversation starters. Lighten up, People.

Sincerely,

A Guy who enjoys reading rumors

Stop with this.

They were gifted good NHL players by morons. That's how they got there

Has 0 to do with culture

- sbroads24

So u predicted Vegas to make the playoffs then?

I don’t remember u saying how good Karlsson would be as a #1 Center coming off his 6 goal season

We’re u raving about a top defense pair of McNabb & Schmidt

Come on dude
No one thought Vegas got a bunch of “good” players at the time

More like a bunch of decent players,
and a handful of young kids with potential

Can't say I'm too surprised based on the public dialogue. But it seems odd that a great coach is stepping away from a great team. New challenges or low-balled contract, I suppose.

Max Domi should have an impact in Montreal. The issue is .. he’s not a goal scorer. And there’s little evidence that guys with three years experience can turn it around.

I am? I said he's close to O'Reilly in value, with the edge to O'Reilly based on position.

Yup.

He is making 5.75M for 1 year. He has 2 30 goal seasons under his belt which is impressive.

But what does that mean he's going to ask for in UFA or an extension... I bet he'd be looking for a 5x7 AAV at minimum or a 7x7 with him being 26 years old. He has a better scoring record than Kane by far.

I really don't want that player on that deal as my long term 1LW. I just don't.

Nope
McNabb & Schmidt we’re paired together

Theodore didn’t even start the season in Vegas, he was sent down

I didn’t watch them a ton throughout the season, but i did see the playoffs
Theodore was paired with Engelland

I'm not sure why anyone would have had to predict them to make the post-season, for the players they have to actually be good.

Marchessault scored 30 goals last year, some said "one year wonder"

There were articles a few years ago about how Nate Schmidt was the Caps best D man, and how he was underused.

Shea Theodore was handed to them so they wouldn't take Vatanen, who was traded months after.

Rielly Smith was handed to them instead of Pysyk or Petrovic

Alex Tuch, a former 1st rounder was handed to them.

I wouldn’t mind Skinner,
even with the contract we’d have to give him

I just think O’Reilly has significantly more trade value than him

I’d be p!ssed if we did a 1 for 1 swap

How did Vegas build a Stanley cup culture in about 5 days?

Why cant the Sabres do that?

They literally came in with no culture. They had no baggage, no bad contracts. They received some very good players from entry draft strapped teams. A lot of their players played with a chip on their shoulders feeling cast aside. And, the city had a terror attack right at the start of the inaugural season. It was a combination of a lot of things that will, most likely, never happen again.

A lot of question marks that all worked out

If YOU knew ALL those guys would be GOOD...
then you’re literally the only one
Even their GM thought they’d have a good pick on the draft this year

Just about everything went right for them
And A LOT of these players did turn out to be good...
we didn’t know that at the time though
And it remains to be seen if the Vets can keep having career years (Fleury, Perron, etc) and if the kids can stay at this level long term (Karlsson, Schmidt, Tuch, etc)

And it’s not fair to just discount the other factors that helped this team...
-the shooting
-players having a chip on their shoulder
-underdog narrative
-COACHING (Gallant was awesome imo)

There was more to it than just the talent level of these guys

If we traded for, and then paid Skinner $7m a year, after b*tching about ROR being overpaid.
