He has been handsomely paid for not producing. He's the last person in this organization that deserves another favor.

If this was a player who had a career threatening injury, and the team wanted to make sure he was taken care of, that's another story.

- sbroads24

Is it Moulson's fault that he was paid that money? I just don't think the human side should be ignored. I must be in the minority.

Regardless of what he deserves, he was a good soldier who helped our future captain and never complained. I think a good will gesture can go a long way with a franchise that apparently has trouble attracting FA's.

if there's only a $1.3m difference in the cap hit this year, and the sabres don't need that space, why bother buying him out?
- Michael Pachla

Because giving a Vet a chance to catch on with another organization looks good to players around the league

Since the damage to us is only a .67mil Cap hit next year,
I’d say that’s worth the good will

And i don’t see any way it harms us

Well, that's a question for his agent. If he's bought out, I can guarantee there's interest. 1 year, 600k. I don't know.
- TheSabresTaco

There's no interest. I'm sure you watched the Final. The league is built on speed. Moulson is the literal anthesis of modern hockey.

I don't either, but the Sabres are a business and not a charity, also, a business who has failed to produce results for years on end now.

Whatever is best for the Sabres is what should be done IMO

I mean, I know what he is. And you may be totally correct. But you don't know, and neither do I. All I'm saying is, if he's bought out, that is the reason why.

This isn't happening. Did everybody forget how slow he is? He couldn't make the worst team in the league. Do you think the Blackhawks are calling his agent? Or the Penguins or GKs? No, the game has passed him by. We did him a favor, and now it's done in 12 months. Stretching it out is crazytown

i'm fine with that but who would have a legit interest in him?
- Michael Pachla

I think he’d get a PTO somewhere
And if not,
I’m sure he’d still be very appreciative that we gave him the chance

Nothing to lose by us doing it

And he’d speak even more glowingly should we buy him out

Do u think buying him out won’t be a gesture that looks good to other players?
Yes or No

I think it would
Therefor, it’s worth the extremely minimal Cap hit next year

- jdfitz77

The Sabres paid for his housing for him and his family in California. But yes buy him out to save $235K it makes zero sense from a financial standpoint as well as the human side. Why drag it out longer?

He’s getting $175,000 every two weeks from the Sabres organization as it is.

He hasn’t said one bad thing about the Sabres to the media and from everything my employee has said to me he hasn’t said anything bad about the Sabres to any of the boys in Ontario. Which is funny since that’s where Petersen is playing.

has anyone mentioned that Moulson would be out $667K?
- Michael Pachla

No, and good point
But I’m assuming Moulson would WANT to be bought out
If he’s happy just playing in the AHL again,
then that’s fine too obviously

Its not nearly that much. The sabres bury him in the AHL. And the buyout saves around 200k to 300k.

I mean I agree, but helping Moulson would not be some cap space boat anchor. The cost of a good dead is so minimal in this scenario that it simply wouldn't matter if he was bought out or not.

I get what you guys are saying. The guy looks spent and in all likelihood hood he is. We think he's stolen enough money from this org and he doesn't deserve the favor. But I know he's a well respected player and it just seems like something you'd do for a player like that. Give him a chance if a chance is being offered. It's really no skin off our backs.

The Reign are expecting him back this year. Moulson is expecting to be back there this year.

He’s happy to be there.

He's scheduled to make $2m this year. I still think he's gonna retire. If he doesn't, he can ride the bus. Everyone earns their paycheck.

Why shouldn't he?

U don’t think it makes the Sabres look good to give him a chance to catch on somewhere else?

I’d think other players would say something like, “oh, that was a cool of them (the Sabres)”

Obviously not a big deal
But it would look good
And the cost to us is .67mil against next year’s Cap
Since that won’t affect us in any way,
why not just bank a little good will?

Don’t see how it harms us

I'm not, I would be absolutely shocked if any player in the world cared we bought Moulson out.

Moulson was garbage, future FA's don't plan on being garbage.

And word of mouth is spread through agents in today's professional sports.

I have no problem with that, but I also don't see any team wanting him...I think any good will towards him, especially with the numbers being relatively small, would be a long-term positive

Its pretty clear MM is done in the NHL, but Id also say Jack Johnson is as well, but hes gonna get a stupid contract based on his name in FA this year, some GM will give him 5 mill per because he was a high pick or something.
GMs are dumb when it comes to signing players, some one may say, "he scored 30 few years ago, maybe we can get him going"
JBotts may be aware of this and would allow MM to sign there and doesn't affect our cap at all going forward.
If the cap hit was substantial then Id disagree on the favour side of things, the 670k cap hit isn't even a blip on the radar imo so really why not.

Didn’t answer my question
Would it look good or not?

Additionally...
would the .67mil Cap hit for next year,
PREVENT US from making potential moves in your opinion?
