In my opinion that is not the correct way to look at it. Having a better player in Schenn over Weise and Weal could've spiked the output of Filppula or even Patrick. Schenn was a 20+ goal 50 point winger for the Flyers. The players that replaced him did not effectively replace him.
They made a significant boost in goals from the previous season due to the improved play offensively of Giroux, Couturier, and Voracek, not from replacing Schenn. - MJL
And Konecny. But you cant act as if that all happen in a vacuum. Why did their play improve?
Either way, the 37 goal increase tells me he was effectively replaced. Arguing about WHO accounted for the increase is irrelevant. The fact is the increase was there, was significant, and was without Schenn in the lineup.

There are many reasons why their play improved. You also have to look at why did they score more goals? It is a fact that they scored more goals than the previous season. If that's the way you want to look at it, then fine. I don't agree with that perspective in determining if they replaced Schenn's output. I think it's very reasonable to state that if Schenn had remained a Flyer, they would've been a deeper and better offensive team. Would've had more of an ability to form deeper and better scoring lines and that Schenn would've been a major upgrade in a top 9 wing spot over players such as Weal and Weise.

Want nothing to do with him.
You can’t bring that kind of poop into a lockeroom. This isn’t Ray Emery 2.0 unless he dumps her.
Curious how they go about proving it. - flyer_nutter

No one was ever doubting this. The concern was where the points would come from without him in the lineup. The answer was that his point totals would come from a committee of players. That happened. I don’t know why you keep arguing about it. |

And it was a legitimate concern. But the players picked up his production collectively. |

No, it didn't happen. Not at all. You can't apply Couturier or Giroux's improved offensive output to replacing Schenn. They didn't replace Schenn. The wingers who replaced Schenn were the committee of Weal, Weise, and a few games here or there for Raffl and Lehtera. That committee did not come close to replacing Schenn.
There is no doubt that the trade of Schenn for the return of draft picks and Lehtera made the Flyers a weaker offensive team in the short term.

Again I never said it didn’t make them weaker, but his points were replaced by better efforts from other players. |

Step one is a change in ownership.
Melnyk is a ghetto owner. - flyer_nutter
He's not doing them any good. I've never seen a team with such potential just implode the way that team does. Everytime I think they're going to move forward with a good group of players the poop hits the fan and they're picking 8th again. |

just catching up, I have to say the first disagreement on this board of the off-season makes me happy. There was never a question MJL would be in the middle of it, we needed a little intensity...
just a counter point
if Schenn stayed, he would have played in the top six. Weal and the gang are bottom six. Schenn stays he might have had 60 points but he could have prevented Coots having a career year and G moving to the wing and having a career year. End analysis? they did replace his production and most likely based upon what Schenn leaving opened up for other players, they scored more than they would have if Schenn stayed, my opinion. |

This story is wild! If the other wives are agreeing against her, you'd have to think Hoffman could be on his way out. His name has already been in trade rumors before this too - arichardson22

Correct. Most said the addition of Patrick and Lindblom would help as well as a bounce back from G and growth from TK. This was achieved even without Lindblom playing with us most the year. Having said this, it was predominantly SuperSchennBros who claimed it wouldn’t be replaced with a few randoms I can’t recall. Wild guess is also MJL. - arichardson22
Giroux didn't replace Schenn's numbers this past season. Giroux showed up and finally replaced him own. He's an 8 million dollar player for crying out loud! |

Oh boy, you guys have a way bigger obsession with Schenn than I do because...Wow!
There is no counter points to be made here. We once had a forward core with names such as Richards, Carter, Briere, Gagne, Hartnell, Knuble and Lupul. All of which scored 20 plus goals between the 7 players. MJL (the villain) makes a logical point that we would be a deeper team with Schenn but all of you smart people believe Schenn would have taken away from other player's production? Just...Wow.
Some of the crap I read on this page really prooves I'm alone in this world because what I'm reading is asinine. Claude Giroux finally shows up after four down seasons and that's only because Ron Hextall traded Brayden Schenn.
Now that's a hot take. |
