Morin will be the enforcer of the future Gudas and Simmer can be sunsetted in 2 years.

You may be selling Meyers a tad short here...he has edge and is actually extremely dedicated to his fitness and strength programs.

He may not be someone likely to drop the gloves like Zadorov would but he can be very aggressive on the physicality side.

Yeah I honestly haven't seen enough of Myers to gauge his physical prowess/approach to the game. Sanheim is pretty huge at 6'4" and you can see his strides and wingspan but he doesn't play a big brute style either. Morin has the stride, the reach and the sincere savagery that is most definitely dwindling from the league.

This past Stanley Cup playoffs, you can see how much toughness mixed with skill is essential. I was all for trying to move Simmonds before the SCF's. Now I'm realizing he's one of a handful of players in the league that have unique qualities that can really shine in the trenches. I also don't think his body breaks down as fast as your typical power forward's body because he's not really a big man. He just plays that way.

This. He doesn't go out of his way to truck people, he's just solid and can dish it out when needed.

Wouldn’t this make it more likely his body does break down lol? If he isn’t really big but plays big, that would mean is body takes more damage being sized normally compared to your typical power forward / big man.

This is kind of how I think. I feel because he plays bigger then his slight frame i think it takes more of a toll on him.

Getting a good competent goalie should be the first priority. One the team has confidence in; they currently don’t have that imo.

But I don't think he plays like a 6'6" 230 lb player the way Mike Richards did. He's not a bowling ball out there, and he's not a player who runs around looking for big hits. He takes the hits when they're there, and he can use his size more for the offensive side of the game as opposed to the defensive side. That's what I take it as when people say he plays like a power forward even though he isn't.

Essentially, I see him more of a Tim Kerr than Milan Lucic.

I agree but considering the amount of goalies the Flyers have signed I don't see a change happening.

It will also be nice to have a full healthy season of Patrick after his first year.

Yes, I think the player we saw over the final 3 months and in the playoffs was a great preview.

Cosign. Simmonds picks and chooses wisely when he wants to go rough and tumble. Also for a somewhat speedy ectomorph build he's uncannily strong.

IMO opinion they had that up until he got hurt. Elliot is definitely a wild card again. Who knows how he comes back from his injury.

That being said I am ok with an Elliot/ Lyon tandem heading in to the season. Part of me expects Carter Hart to at least be in the mix coming out of camp. But cooler heads will prevail and we may see him later in the season. But if not, I'm fine with him getting his season in Lehigh.

Its not our time yet. But it will be sooner than later.

I didn't mean that either. But he is net front guy so pucks and sticks hit him. he takes a beating there. Last year he had numerous injuries. Usually guys like that start getting nicks and little injuries that seem to take 10 days here, 5 days there to recover.

I just don't see him as an imposingly physical guy. I can see him more along the lines of 2010 SCF Coburn who used his size with authority, but not they type that players fear as they approach the blueline.
- jmatchett383

I dont either, maybe as he gets older he will but I do think he needs another year in the AHL.

Besides Sanheim the Flyers are a smaller D, with not much reach. I do think Myers will provide that when he is ready. The only one with the edge is Morin. You can for sure see how the Flyers seen the D coming together. With Provy, Ghost, Hagg, Morin and Myers. That is a nice blend, when all of them are ready and healthy.

Elliot as a back up is fine. 2 playoffs in a row he got shelled. He isn’t the answer nor is he a good enough placeholder. They need to go outside and upgrade. Hell u can move Elliott if need be.

What they have now isn’t good enough for this team to take the next step.

Sanheim 6'3" 181
Hagg 6'2" 204
Provorov 6'0" 202

I think Ill disagree with your Sanheim assessment. But I DO agree that they maybe they don't have enough edge.

FWIW I don't agree. Lack of third line center and playing Manning in the top 4 were bigger issues than goaltending

But Manning had all of the glue. He worked hard, was a good teammate, and was willing to make a statement by getting punched in the face a lot.

But man, that glue...

He is here now and that is a problem with him as ur number one.

Are you ok if they take a step back and miss the playoffs next year?

No, I would not be, but I don't think it will be because of the goalies.

Next year I expect them to make the playoffs, where as last season I thought it was a 50/50 proposition.

Besides, I would actually be surprised if the goalie situation is the same at the end of the season as it was at the beginning.

Its the season after this where I believe that window starts to crack itself open.

I could def see them missing as not like they eased in this year.

There will be some regression imo from numerous players; also some will improve. With that being said crucial imo to have an upgrade in goal.

I also want to add that had our top 2 goalies not gotten hurt this team would have easily made the playoffs. As it is, they still made the playoffs and not as a wildcard. They did this DESPITE having a goalie carousel over the last 2 months that would make Dorney Park jealous.

Of course my opinion is based on not having to deal with those kinds of injuries again.

I think he got shelled this year due to rushing to get back from surgery he really should have just shut down the season for.
