Get it down now. 8 million for 8 years. Because if he has another solid year and somehow get into Norris talk next year the price just goes up - J35Bacher
Exactly.

No thanks. If the Caps don't re-sign him, someone is going to offer him 7 years and at least 55 million. I don't want any part of that.

Yeah. After the playoffs and year he had, he is getting paid. I can see Edmonton trying to clear some space to go after him. That's why I think they want to move Lucic. |

1. Draft Farabee at #14
2. Draft one of Kupari, Kravtsov, Noel, at #19
3. Trade Gudas and Weal + late Pick to get an early 2nd and draft Berggren.
4. Trade Simmonds

I'm starting to be suspicious that Hextall and Pryor are actually the same person. |

Provy as a rookie in 16-17, put up 6 goals and 30 points, was a -7 and finished with an ATOI of 21:59. He was playing #1 Dman minutes and matchups by mid season and his numbers are extremely impressive for a 19-20 year old rookie playing that spot on a mediocre team.
Last year, he upped his numbers to 17 goals, 41 points and was a +17 with an ATOI of 24:09. His numbers are extremely impressive when you consider the fact that he does not play on the top PP and he plays, by far, the most and hardest minutes of any player on the team. His overall possession numbers are solid as well, especially when you factor in his 53% D zone starts and the amount of time he's on the ice against top lines.
Even without top pp unit time, I can see Provorov being a guy who plays 25-26 minutes a night, matches up against the other teams top lines and top pp units, is extremely durable and always in phenomenal shape, and, once the forward talent level is upgraded, is consistently putting up 15-20 goals and 50-60 points.
With all that being said, I'd give him 8 million per for 8 years without a moment's hesitation because I think 8 million will be a bargain for Provorov by the 2nd or 3rd year of the deal, and potentially a flat out steal by the 5th through 8th years. Not only could the cap easily be flirting with 100 million by then, but even in the last year of the deal, Provorov will only be turning 30. - BiggE
The last paragraph is exactly what was going through my head when I saw the OEK deal. I think what makes this even easier is that Ghost and Coots are both locked up at what appears to be a bargain. So...even if Provorov is at his peak (chances of that are relatively minimal) it still is an acceptable hit/term.

I wouldn't hesitate to give Provy 8x8, but I don't think they'll even need to go that high in $ |

Even if a team is unable to select a certain player in his Draft year, the staff's pre-Draft scouting work doesn't go four naught.

I’m not sure I’d go after any FA Dmen. You already have Provy, Ghost, AMac, Sanheim, Gudas and Hagg healthy and, except for Hagg who should be signed soon, under contract for next year. You also have Myers who may be ready too and Morin should be back in the picture before the end of next season. Maybe you sign a 6/7 guy for depth but that’s all I’d do unless a Dman is traded at the draft. |

Agreed. I think priority 1 is signing a 3C who can kill penalties and chip in a few goals. Someone like Riley Nash.

burn his copy editor.
All kidding aside, I am so glad the franchise saw the light about draft picks. So they never trade a 1st and a 3rd for the likes of Kris Versteeg, or a 1st for the likes of Steve Eminger.......EVER again.....

I m hoping he stays away from UFA dmen. He considers Provy and Ghost vets, by his logic 4 of the top 6 are filled with experience. I don't want another vet to block Meyers.
