I thought that's what a two way deal was. Well poop. - Aaron_85
2 way deal just means paying nhl money in nhl and ahl money in ahl.
Waivers are based on age and games played and when the player first signed |

Actually signing a guy to a 1 way deal may make it easier to sneak through
This. It's a less attractive pickup for a budget team unless they plan to play them in the NHL.
Pickard went through waivers last year too. Vegas slipped him by after picking up Subban. |

I think teams let him go because they'd have to send him down through waivers as well. I could be making it up, but I think the leafs traded for him once he was through waivers so they didn't have to try to sneak him through their waivers with everyone knowing they wanted him. |

Correct. If you didn't plan on having him in th nhl picking off waivers doesn't make sense.

have you guys beat the goalie conversation to death yet? Doesn't matter. Here's my take:
We have:
Andersen
McBackUp
Sparks
Pickard
I suggest you leave the NHL goalies as they are. McBackup played fine and will play fine next year. Let his contract ride out the final year.
Trade Sparks and let Pickard play. Pickard was Colorado's heir apparent for awhile but they no longer liked him and he was taken in the expansion draft.
Sparks' value will never be higher. Trade the guy and allow another prospect or sign another AHL goalie to back up Pickard to see what he's got. He can take over back up duties the following year. - Aaron_85
Don't forget about Kaskisuo who they just re-signed as well.

I did forget him. Honestly, it means a goalie is as good as gone this off-season.
I think Babcock likes McBackup and will fight to keep him for the year unless he Enroth's the net.
I'd move Sparks. He did win AHL goalie of the year but there's some real crap on that list. A lot of failed starters in the NHL. |

McBackup's stats were at the top of the league last year.

Whoever signs JT will probably wish they could Opt out after 3 or 4 seasons. If Lou can salvage some kind of worthy return, I am not opposed to JT being moved. If he re-signs with the Isles......its not the worst thing in the world cause its not my money. Isles are in a win-win situation. - LItransplant44
Highly disagree, JT is an elite centre that would make any team astronomically better. If any team has a chance to get one for free you take it and run |

Get Tavares and some interesting UFA D men might become available for less than the Leafs would normally pay. A lot of D with no trade clauses might exclude the Leafs from that as well... Overpaying for Tavares might not be a problem in the end. |

I think Toronto might make a trade for Tyler Myers.
Makes a bit of sense to get him as a first pairing RH D alongside Rielly.
In last year of his contract as well - at 5.5mln. |
