When was the last offer sheet? The one for Shea Weber? These just don't seem to happen...
And there's no way anyone is getting Hellebuyck for that cheap |

Isn't this line of thinking what got Buffalo into trouble with Murray at the helm? Making big trades to accelerate the rebuild, that blew up in their face?
Might be better to just stand pat and build from within with. |

O'Reilly in 2013. The last accepted one you'd have to go back to 2007 when Oilers got Pancakes. |

Good luck getting Helly that cheap
I also wonder how badly the Jets want Trouba.
I live in Winnipeg and when Trouba went on his little pout there, most people I talked to said "don't let the door hit you on the way out"
I thought differently, that Trouba was just sending a message and I felt he would be back.
Now...since he came back...I have 2 different trains of thought.
At first,I was okay cool,he's back and will bud into this great defensmen...he did not imo.
So I then thought ok,maybe he will do really well down the stretch and the Jet's can trade him and get something good for him.
I thought he did well until the playoffs honestly.
I thought he withered as a productive d.
I now feel he is totally expendable and nowhere near what I hoped he would become.
He has some serious potential for sure....and maybe elsewhere he achieves that potential.
I really hope the jets can gouge some team for some picks or that Buffalo does lose their mind and offers Trouba an offer sheet.
Anyways...just my opinion. |

Love both ideas though Trouba is the only definite need. If you get Hellebuyck too (who looks to be an excellent goalie) you then have to do something with Ullmark who is ready to make the jump to the big club and may be a legit #1.
Would definitely give 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for Trouba with no hesitation. Then trade Ristolainen for Hanifin and recoup some draft capital and cap space trading O'Reilly to Montreal. Could also see moving any of Bailey, Baptiste, or Fasching for the right price.
Too bad it'll never happen. The NHL offseason, already the best of any sport, would be that much better with actual offer sheets. |

Why would Buffalo trade 3 picks to make an overpay offer to Trouba when they could just go and overpay Carlsson in the offseason for free? He is a better player and would likely cost less than $2M more per season by this estimate.
Reasons not to offer sheet:
1. You generally have to overpay for a player significantly to get them.
2. In addition to overpaying you have to give up many draft picks.
3. You destroy any goodwill you have with a number of other GM's.
I also don't understand why they would get rid of Risto and then overpay Trouba. I don't think they are all that far off in terms of what they bring to the table. |

because F*** them. If they didn't want offer sheets they should have done away with them last CBA.

You'd rank MLB offseason 1st even though they draft during the season and the excitement of free agency rivals paint drying? |

I disagree with the guy who thinks most jets fans want could care less if Trouba stays or goes!! Most want Myers gone and Trouba signed long term
I’d love buffalo to get both Trouba and Helle to sign these deals!!! It would make chevy’s job way easier as he’d instantly match and have two important guys locked up in good deals. So like I said, do it so we can match and move on |

In terms of trades and players changing hands, yes.
The MLB has it set up right where there is top end talent available every off season.
Last year was an anomaly for the NHL. |

This would never happen. The jets would be thrilled if those boys accepted that offer, as they would match it in a heartbeat and keep a vezina nominated goalie and a top pairing D for 10M collectively. |

I was just stating facts my friend...
I'm not even a Jets fan but I do have full season tickets and I have seen a slow downward degradation of Trouba's skill set.
Btw...if you actually read what I said..
I only said most fans at the time of Trouba's pout wanted him gone not now.
At no time did I say anyone else felt that way.
I have no idea why the fans want Myers gone lol
Sure he gets hurt often...but I think he brings waaaay more offense to the Jets than Trouba and if Trouba were to actually meet his potential...then yes Myers should go.
But hey I'm a Hawks fan so as much as I wish the Jet's the best...I don't really care what they do...but the wife does |

The point is when you offer sheet a player, that teams go will turn around and do the same in retaliation, then you loose a player you may want to keep.
No friendship bs about it. |

When, specifically, did a team have a player offer sheeted in retaliation for an earlier offer sheet they offered?
Nashville never offer sheeted a Philadelphia player.
Colorado never offer sheeted a Calgary player.
Chicago never offer sheeted a San Jose player.
The only time you could make the argument would be the Backes/Bernier offer sheets back in 2008, but that seems like an anomaly more than a rule.

Who do you think gets their contract bought out?
I think
Paul Martin (SJ)
Lucic (EDM)
Bobby Ryan (OTT)
Dubinsky (CBJ)
All of which I would be interested in signing to a lower Cap contract for the Pens if they were bought out.

I don't think there's any way Melnyk would spend money for a player to NOT play for him.
Lucic still has 5 years left, meaning he'd be on Edmonton's books for the next 10 years. Dubinsky still has 3 years left, so he'd be on the books for 6. That's a long time for both.
Martin could make sense, although they may have the cap space depending on the Hertl extension and what they do with Thornton. |
