Trade Dahlin and ROR for Skinner, Rask, Slavin, and 2
- TheSabresTaco

Ah yes the extreme exaggeration.

but hey 10-15 more wins almost puts us in a spot where if we get 10 more wins we compete for the playoffs.

Nice
I is Michael...some real good values in those slots.

The Isles taking a young Center...doubt he plays in 2018...but, but it would be good for the 2019 season to have a solid 2C come in and shelter him for a season or so...wondering who would fit that bill?.
Hmmm.

Timing would be perfect, just perfect!

i am fine with trading them all.. i would prefer we keep risto because of our depth at D but if thats what it takes then go for it.

You don't even need a strong bottom 6 per say as much as you just need a strong top 9.

I don't know about you guys but the best way to a strong top 9 is to have 3 studs at the pivot.

Jack
ROR
Casey

Is that. I don't get why this is so hard to comprehend.

There is a middle ground between

Trade everything, blow it up

And

Don't trade anyone

1 strategic move to shake things up, combined with a smaller transaction (Beaulieu-type), restrained, yet active free agency, and an open competition for spots. Dump the bottom six guys.

For example:

ROR, next year's second for Hamilton
McCabe, 32 for Athanasiou
Sign Enstrom 2 years
Sign Bernier 2-3 years
Try to offload Bogo
Let the kids play

This team's not ready yet...our talent is still slow-cooking. Once those guys start hitting 24-25 years old...watch out! We're assembling quite a roster of elite talent. I don't that the Sabres have ever had this much elite talent in the last 35-40 years.

How many years do we have to say this? I feel like it has been said for the last 8 years+

Grigorenko, Pysyk, McNabb, Zadorov, Girgensons, Kassian, Foligno, Myers, Ennis, Adam, Gerbe, etc etc.

There are other ways. You don't like the other ways though. Trade other guys, use picks, use prospects, offer sheets, free agency, European players, prospects come in and challenge for spots.

You have a bit of target fixation when it comes to trading 90, 55 and 23 imo

- jcragcrumple

So we're going to trade our picks that build our future and you want to keep the people here that have been unsuccessful and have not taken us over the top when we spent a poopload for them

Makes sense...

You want change you trade one of ristolainen ,Sam,ROR

Or you can recycle the same bullpoop and be back here in 3 years

Yup.
However, my suggestions isn't doing the same thing...
1) Dahlin was't here last year
2) Erod a) didn't start the season here as he was injured, and b) he played a small handful of games with Jack, so this is different
3) Mitts was here for 5 games out of 82...doesnt sound like the same to me either
4) Sam and ROR played GREAT together for the last 1/4 to 1/3 of the season together ... that combo is very, very solid and helps them...it wasn’t a reason for their failure as a team...so, yup I want that the same only for 50 more games a year.
5) to a lesser extent, keeping Wilson out of the top 6 is different...he played a fair amount with ROR and Jack. While I like what Wilson brings..I like it more in a bottom 6 role not top 6
6) Okposso was still recovering from a dreadful injury for 1/2 the season...he played well before getting concussed again...then picked his game up again once he recovered from that latest concussion. Stating that he is revitalized meaning at the top of his conditioning and capabjties is certainly different
7) not having chumps in goal should help as well. It is nearly certain both Lehner and Johnson are both gone and replaced. Again, different.

Those are the major points but other aspects could creep in, like another 1 2 or 3 players up their contributions (McCabe not injured, Bogo not injured, Bailey/Baptiste/another prospect steps forward to claim a spot and helps)...again different.

Throw in dumping Girgs and Larson..one of which, hopefully both are gone.

A fair amount of change there.
Just because ROR, Reinhart and Risto aren’t traded does mean it is the same.
The narrative of doing the same is an object failure...only those with a burning desire to trade everyone except Jack and Mitts clings to it.

Why do we want to trade Sam now??

Our best RW... gotten better every year... 25 goals last year.

You trade Same and our Right side is Okposo, Pommer, Nylander, & Olofsson. That's BRUTALLY bad.

I don't really see a scenario where trading Risto and Reinhart truly make us better, if you're going player for player. yeah, I guess if you trade Risto for 2 or 3, perhaps you get a little better. Or that pick could be a top 2 dman. But immediately I don't see how the team gets much better. ROR is different. His age and ability CAN be replaced, at least in great part, with a much more team friendly contract. His value to other teams is likely higher than what the Sabres could value him with. of course, a contingency plan needs to be in place to replace him in the lineup for the immediate future.

That's why people want to trade him. Ultimately, the player, the contract and the age are expendable.

Again, your idea of big changes is Dahlin and Middlestadt and hope:
an oft injured Bogosian finally stays healthy.
a now oft injured Okposo who's career was almost over who is now in his 30s returns to all star form.
a 4th line center can produce as a first line winger. (Cough Girgensons cough)

just because it is "differnet" doesn't make it better.

the Sabres had a -113 goal differential during the tank season. they had a -81 this year. Different number, but still really really S****y

So how do we fix this roster without moving one of the big 3 ?

We need to get faster on wing and I'm sorry Sam is not fast and ROR is slow also

Those 3 can help us get players that will build us to a contender

Agreed it was, but how many years have we been saying, man these prospects are going to tear it up in Buffalo.

I have never seen this city more excited about two prospects than Kassian and Foligno.

How do you expect the goals to go up when half the Wingers on the team can't even accept a pass and score

I honestly look to trade Bailey/Baptiste and McCabe in a package for a 2nd LW quite a bit. Maybe add in a pick.... I target the likes of Hoffman, Stone, etc a lot.

Borgen and Beaulieu I'll package together too in deals.

This is a really bad list

Corey Perry getting bough out?
Thomas Tatar who the Knights just trade a 1,2,and 3 for.
