No my argument was that he was basically going to get a offer sheet from the Columbus Blue Jackets so basically they had all the power

Hawks can get either picks or players the choose the players

The trade would have never happened

- gerbe75pts

you basically just re-worded what he said..

the hawks had to trade him or let him walk.. they couldn't sign him with their cap situation.

CBJ wanted to get him before he hit the market or got an offer sheet from someone else so they traded for him

That's not true Columbus was the team that was going to offer sheet him
- gerbe75pts

Right. But that threat does not stop the Hawks from trading Saad to the highest bidder.

The only way it stops them is if the Jackets actually offered the offer sheet and Saad accepted (Which still has to happen), and that never happened.

If Columbus sends an offer and Saad says no, Columbus is SOL. AKA no power.

Your argument is: "he could have been offer sheeted, therefore he was offer sheeted"
- jcragcrumple

So here is a question related to this, if you offer sheet player A by Team B, can Team A trade that player still, without matching the offer and then trading them?

All I'm saying is if a whisper of an offer sheet happening that day the trade was never happening with Columbus

That is all

First the Blackhawks had no choice everyone knew they had no capspace

But they wanted to find the best deal they got backed in the corner because of the Blue Jackets

I'm just trying to explain to you that a offer sheet was happening but you seem to have a hard time grasping that

- gerbe75pts

Brandon Saad did not receive, nor did he sign, an offer sheet.

By your logic, Shea Weber basically didn't receive an offer sheet.

When something could happen, but doesn't happen, it didn't happen.

i went back and read all the tweets, twats and article snips you posted.. Not one time did it say that columbus was putting an offer sheet on the table. Now it may be out there that this was the case but you have yet to show that.. everythign you posted just said the fear was looming. but that is the case with every high level RFA that isn't signed

Once an Offer Sheet for a Restricted Free
Agent has been received by the Prior Club, the Prior Club may not Trade or otherwise Assign its
Right of First Refusal for such Restricted Free Agent.

Also, if they match the offer sheet, they cannot trade the player for one year.

The Canucks said he is which means he might, but only if another teams surgeon thinks about doing it

Agreed. I think the draft picks are too important the next couple of years.

So this means he could have "gotten" an offer sheet, but not signed it. Or that a team was starting to submit an offer sheet and he was traded.

Draft picks are a good point. Even dismissing them, JB just doesn't feel like the type to stir the pot like an offer sheet does.

That just puts us right back to trading pieces of real value to improve this team, trading pieces of limited value to try to improve, or doing nothing significant. I still have a hard time believing that anyone argues for the last option.
