I always got a kick out of free agency starting at noon only July 1st, and they at 12:06 p.m. some huge deal would be reported. Man, that must have been a real productive six minutes to hammer that poop out.

They can discuss anything they want, they just can't officially sign and deliver the deal. The contract can be drawn up a week before free agency and the player/team put pen to paper first thing on July 1st. They can do literally anything except execute the contract.

edit: ok maybe that is overstepping it a little, but I don't believe for a second these guys aren't drawing up the contracts beforehand.

Really interested to see what Andrew Sarrazin does at 3. Does he go with Zadina or does he go a little off the board, like we've heard the actual Habs might do.

It's kind of like how if you were to interview for a job, you might ask what starting pay is and they might ask you what you are looking for. No actual offer is presented but parameters and desires are discussed to see if it is worthwhile for talks to continue.

Sounds like it's a possibility that he could be had. I would assume a lot of teams would be very interested if that's the case. He'd cost a fortune, unless Bergevin was brokering the sale.
