I'll also volunteer to cover any teams that Jan can't find someone for, if needed.

Like Kevin Hayes?

Edit: seriously tho, Rangers have the inside scoop knowing about him over all the other teams. Quinn will be the decision maker I’d think

- Slimtj100

I tell you what, if the Rangers somehow find themselves in a position to draft him yet dont draft him, it speaks volumes about what Quinn really thinks of him

I really think he’s was part of the reason why they hired him and they’ll make every attempt to draft him now.

I'm sure Quinn will have a voice in the draft room, but I highly doubt the Rangers are going to give final say to a guy they hired a month before the draft over their GM and scouting staff that have been at this for an entire year.

You and I are generally in agreement that he is somewhat overrated, but I think you may have tipped the scales a little too far in that direction.

Hey, I'm not saying I'm right...but based on all the facts, my own personal opinion is that he's probably best suited as a pick somewhere between 10 and 20, with going between 10-15 more realistic. I really sincerely think that his name is pushing him up the draft board.

10 years ago, Colin Wilson was in similar spot

little bit older than most draftees, son of a NHLer, scored 12 goals freshmen year at BU, went 7th overall to Nashville

ok career, nothing to write home about

why has Tkachuk soured for so many people

is it strictly because he only scored 8 goals on 131 shots?

- jimbro83

Partly. That and he's one of the oldest players in his first year of draft eligibility. His numbers are easy to second guess when you consider the team he played on, his relative age, and his skillset.

Yeah if he goes higher than 9 it's probably a mistake.

I get what you mean, but it’s also very rare to have knowledge of a kid that was just coached by the same person. I’d imagine this scenario has never happened before which makes it very intriguing. I’ll say this, I’d feel very comfortable with the pick knowing that they will surely have input on the player in the best way possible. Way more comfortable then some nerd like you telling me hes gonna suck haha

I think Tkachuk will be better than him, but I'm not so sure he's going to be his brother.

Matthew had 95pts in 65 games playing with the USNTDP U18 team, Brady had 54pts in 61gp with the same team/age group. Matthew played with London in the OHL and posted 107pts in 57gp, where Brady managed to score 31pts in 40gp with BU.

Obviously it's not as simple as just looking at the scoring numbers, but I feel pretty confident that Matthew is vastly more skilled than his little brother.

I don't doubt that Quinn probably knows more about Tkachuk than anyone in any organization in the NHL, but think he's as likely to fall victim to confirmation bias as he is to have some sort of super-secret knowledge about Brady that nobody else has.

NHL teams have entire scouting departments for a reason, I don't see them kicking those guys to the side because someone that coached him for one year has a different opinion.

If Tkachuk we're European, he wouldn't be a top 10 pick and would be talked about with the "inconsistencies" in his game.

A guy who makes his living around the front of the net only scoring 8 goals is a huge problem.

Wahlstrom and Kotkaniemi are both better forwards.

I think if his name was simply "Joe Walters" he wouldn't be talked about being in the top-10 or maybe even the top-15.

His draft bio would read "Average scorer at the collegiate level. NHL-frame and likely has plus physical traits. Can get under opponents skin. Middle-6 NHL forward with ability to agitate opposing players is a ceiling he is likely to reach"

Believe me, I am funneling all my energy into the hope that I am wrong and David Quinn has a raging stiffy for Tkachuk and apparent full-control over the Rangers draft.

I also think that the Islanders will be picking only once in the first round.
