If you were the #NYR would you trade Kevin Hayes, the 28th pick, and Sean Day for Ryan O’Reilly? - tomburton99

3 1sts, 2 2nds and a good prospect for karlsson?
I wouldn't pay that for 1 year of him. - Tumbleweed
We can give you Lovejoy for a 7th rounder instead. |

No. That is an insane price a guy that is almsot 30 and can leave in 12 months. - tomburton99
Their 4th overall was also coming back, wasn’t just Karlsson |

Hedman also was in that debate - airjan23
Yeah, I didn't mention that because it would have at least been defensible. Duchene over Tavares was pure insanity. If I recall, the argument was that he was a significantly better skater, which in-and-of itself is true...but still. |

Yeah. Well Duchene is one of the laziest players I've ever seen. Yet so skilled. |

Would maybe have to add a little bit but not much. Lindgren? - nyrangers9479
If they trade him this offseason, they're going to get a package centered around either young NHL talent or quality prospects that are just about NHL ready. Not a bunch of draft picks that are 2-4 years away from the NHL.
They quite literally cannot afford to not get back NHL pieces due to being forced to send COL their unprotected first round pick next year. If that's a lottery pick, especially a good lottery pick, they are royally (frank)ed. |

I'm just happy assface former-GM boy didn't trade Barzal for him. That, plus everything else, may have been enough to finally push me over the edge into neutral-fandom and I don't think I'm joking about that. |

How did that work out for Ottawa! - airjan23
Terrible. But my point was that when you have a coveted asset, like Duchene or Karlsson, giving it up for a bunch of picks that are years out when you are under massive pressure to be not-terrible the following year would be a mistake of titanic proportions.
You'd essentially be giving away Karlsson AND a 2019 lottery pick for a bunch of other lesser picks. |

Yes. Apparently I don't want a 7.5 mill cap hit till 2099 for a few more points. |

It does...check with RangerSaver. He is a fly on the wall to these discussions - climbdenali12
See Jan's 11:29 am comment to see the main reason why in contrast to your words, and as I wrote yesterday, I do not waste my time paying any attention to mock drafts, with the exception for those from the few top & most reliable NHL draft experts', or God for bid, should any bad news suddenly break on a draftee. Otherwise, I don't research them until the Cup Finals are about to end, meaning that "The Combine" would have also just ended, in likely affecting some's experts' original thoughts in having to alter their rankings, including those in the Top 10, as per one of Jan's references he noted.
So I am not "a fly on the wall to these discussions", because they mean little, except for researching the few most reputable experts that primarily or solely concentrate on the Draft more than anyone else. That included in earlier years, the likely best ever rated NHL Draft expert back then, in the 2011 deceased, E.J. McGuire. |

Latest mock draft from TheScore.com
https://www.thescore.com/...lvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Look at Merkley, Kaut, Bokk.. - airjan23
Proof as to why, Jan, I only begin paying attention to the top rated NHL Draft experts opinions, but only from about the time now that the Cup Finals are ending, and The Combine has as well. That's of course, barring any sad breaking bad news on an expected, top draftee possibly occurring injury wise or worse.
The rankings after the perceived Top 3 overall at most, can vary and change much more among those who do not primarily specialize in draftee matters, than those top reputable ones do, as with the best rated one through his death in the Spring of 2011, in E.J. McGuire.

How am I on crack? Literally every team in the NHL would offer more than a bunch of crappy picks and a 1B prospect.
Not saying this will happen, but PK Subban would be more valuable by himself then all those picks and a prospect, by a long shot
- eichiefs9
I mentioned the other day that Ottawa would be deciding on whether to re-sign Erik Karlsson, or be heavily in the running to sign John Carlson if it appeared he would be heading to free agency. This Subban possibility makes sense as well for him to replace Karlsson, who at a (-36) for his regular season career, and coming off his (-25) of this past season, is worse defensively than even Shattenkirk, who is a (+3) career wise, after playing through 46 games this past season with a torn meniscus in being a (-14).
Either way, word I heard was that they would not be without a top NHL right handed shooting d'man should they decide to part ways with Erik. If he leans slightly lower than his past season's demand to be the highest paid NHL player, Ottawa may just end up re-signing him anyway.
