I think Karlssons best years are behind him. Plus his next contract is going to be ridiculous. I personally wouldn’t want him.
- nyrangers9479

He's 28 and he's scored 82, 71, & 62 points in each of the last three seasons, despite dealing with injuries.

Someone is going to offer up a way better package for his services, even if it's for a year.

Hedman was in that draft as well.

Just looked at that draft year. Some pretty good players in that draft. Not a bad year at all. Except for the Isles picks after JT.

I think the Islanders should do it, so they can have two Hall of Famers walk two years in a row.

I'm all about taking a stab at him if Tavares walks

The older u get the more those injuries start to catch up to you. If I’m the Rangers I’m staying away from him.

But all jokes aside, I kind of want no part of Karlsson. I think the guy is unbelievable but I also think he would cost way, way too much and you would be paying for his best years played somewhere else.

I'm not saying the Rangers should go after him.

I'm saying a package of one prospect and a bunch of picks, only one of which has any real value, isn't going to land anyone Erik Karlsson.

If I were a Ranger fan I'd feel the same way.

But, I went back and looked, he'd be the Rangers leading scorer by a country mile in each of the last three seasons. Guy is unbelievable.

Yeah, and he has one year left on his contract. If the Rangers really wanted him, they could wait a year and just give up nothing but money. They aren't contending this year, so why would they give up a million picks. Why would anyone actually?

You literally would turn down three first round picks, two seconds and Lias Andersson for Karlsson? Put the crack pipe down, Chiefs.

How am I on crack? Literally every team in the NHL would offer more than a bunch of crappy picks and a 1B prospect.

Not saying this will happen, but PK Subban would be more valuable by himself then all those picks and a prospect, by a long shot

Because you just are. The 9th pick, the 26th pick, the 28th pick, the 39th pick, the 48th pick and Lias Andersson for a guy that has one year left on his deal?

Crack is bad, motha (frank)er.

26th and 28th are not all that valuable. The 9th pick is the only pick there that would give OTT a marginal chance to land a star player. The chances of having a good prospect fall to the late 20's and then actually turn out to be a significant contributor are small. The chances of that happening with those later picks is minuscule. Andersson is a good prospect that I'm sure they'd love, but the only true value they're getting is 9 and Andersson. The rest is filler.

Matt Duchene got COL an exponentially-better package than that and he's Matt Duchene.

I want to acquire Erik Karlsson for much, much less than you think he's worth. Trade him to you for every pick in your draft, and then just sign him next year out from under you.

Edit: Not to mention, all this for the right to cripple your cap next year by giving him $12 million plus until he is 36. Good grief, if the Rangers did that, I would give up all hope.

Again, at no point did I suggest the Rangers should or would trade for him.

My point is that Ottawa will do way better than a handful of picks and a prospect.

If you were the #NYR would you trade Kevin Hayes, the 28th pick, and Sean Day for Ryan O’Reilly?

3 1sts, 2 2nds and a good prospect for karlsson?

I wouldn't pay that for 1 year of him.

No. That is an insane price a guy that is almsot 30 and can leave in 12 months.

he's still the top offensive dman in the league. there's value there for 1 year, but a solid 4-piece package of picks/prospects imo.

Yeah, this is also the absolute worst time to read/discuss/whatever draft prospects. Anyone that's interested has, at least, a general working knowledge of who these kids are, where they are ranked, how they play, etc... Now everyone just starts nitpicking over the stupidest crap about their game/size/etc... and it's awful. I believe May of 09 was about the time you started to see articles like "Should the Islanders take Duchene over Tavares?" and stuff like that

- eichiefs9

Hedman also was in that debate

How did that work out for Ottawa!
