he's benefiting from nobody actually watching him play imo. look at this stats or hero sharts and he looks norris caliber. see a few highlights and it only cements that. he makes more mistakes than any of the actual top guys outside of maybe subban though.

OEL would get trashed by the media so hard if he played in toronto. He's not good defensively.

Dont forget fans

But the issue I have is what most people see as good/bad defense.
There are lot of players who are good at shot suppression...but its not something you see in the game that sticks in your mind as something someone actually did.

thats when you end up with people seeing Polak being better than Gardiner on D

on a good shift polak manages to get the puck in his own end and then mashes it off the glass and heads to the bench and leaves it to the next pairing to regain possession. absolute possession killer. people love the safe plays without thinking about how much it actually hurts the team over a whole season i guess.

Nobody has ever said Polak is better then Gardiner....maybe they've said he's looked better during some games...which is possible. You Gardiner protectors are weird, strange but yet sexy beasts all at the same time.

That's the Leaf way...not just Polak ( even though he loves it high and hard off the glass...icing he has to stay out though ) Some games it looks like the Leaf players are about to cheer when they get it over our blue line.

High. We're surprisingly shallow on RHD. I don't know there's a trade to be made for him. We're a much worse team with him out of the lineup.

Unless Roland McKeown is ready, I guess.

- BINGO!

Pesce is more of what we need. I'm hopeful that the combo of Waddell and Dundon are dumber than a bag of rocks.

Leafs should add Brian Burkie as a special advisor to Dubas and co.

I think it's a situation where the Canes desperately need to add offense and excitement to their lineup, and Hanifin is the most valuable asset they can afford to trade.

Nobody on the roster (except Aho) is going to give you as big of a return as you'll get for Hanifin and losing him hurts, but isn't the end of the world with Fleury and Bean behind him on the depth chart.

- BINGO!

Yeah, I think Hanafin will get you back some nice pieces.

If it happens it'll be a wonky trade imo. Lots of pieces.

there is a full 60 podcast (Craig Custance) with Paul Krepelka.
he's the new VP of hockey operations.
was a good insight into the Hurricanes situation..

seems the new GM is quite a handful.
seems as well that the organzation is a bit of a mess.
they'll make some moves for sure - basically looking for some goalscorers as a first priority.

Subban is very good, maybe even a top ten d-man. Has some warts though - plus he makes $9 mil for four more years, Gardiner only makes $4 million.

so after gardiners rookie season? i could see the argument back then. subban had his really good series vs crosby before that otherwise hadn't really separated himself from gardiner yet.
