So Adding one player and keeping the rest of a 25 win roster in place all of the sudden gets you to 40 wins +?

Lets see if Connor McDaivd agrees.

- ImThatGuy

Didn't Edmonton do to the conference finals in 2017?

It's not just one player:

Its Casey mitts
Dahlin
Guhle about to be a regular 21 years old
Eichel at 21
Sam out of rehab (hopefully) at 22 years old
Okposo not spending the off season in ICU
Lehner and Chad not being on this roster
2nd year coach- new assistants
McCabe back from injury

And
The Sabres actually trying to not pick early
Making moves to get better not worse

If they can land Tavares they should.
Only Crosby, Kane, Ovechkin and Giroux have scored more than him in the last 8 years.

He is a superstar talent, and the Sabres would be downright stupid not to at least reach out.

so if this was just a lighting in a bottle and a once in a lifetime thing they shouldn't be changing any of how the expansion draft worked next time. But I can bet they do! The NHL can not have this happen again. Unless they want it to

ok im all ears for this. How easy is it to get rid of all those guys? how do you plan on getting rid of them.
Whom are you replacing them with?
What does your opening night roster look like?

- ImThatGuy

Bogo- 7th guy or buy out/ trade
Bowl u- 8th guy
Gorges - ufa
Faulk- ufa

Moulson- ahl
Larson- 13th forward
Girgs - some trade value, decent 12th
Pouliot-ufa
Nolan- ufa

How about that?
Risto
Dahlin
McCabe
Guhle
Nelson
Scandella

? -eichel- sam
Ror- mitts- okposo
Vanek- erod- wilson
Bailey/babs- girgs - pommer

Ullmark
Ufa goalie

So my Hope's are:

Decent 1 or 2 winger
Vanek
Some scrub to pan out from Rochester to play 10 minutes of nhl hockey a night
Good ufa goalie

You left out Josefson, pouliot and antipin who are leaving. Olofsson and Pilut as wild cards to make the team.

The depth this year will be miles better. I say this all the time, but our bottom six to start last year was

Nolan-Larsson-Griffith
Moulson-Josefson-Girgensons

Literally awful

Like homie said change 8 players out. That's a 3rd of the roster.

Bogo
Bowl u
Gorges
Faulk

Moulson
Larson
Nolan
Girgs ?

Chad
Lehner

There 10 easy guys to get rid of

Why change our good players?

- Boss34

That’s great that We are changing up the scraps but we need to trade one of the big three to send a message to the fan base and to the team

The fact that they would ever be labeled a "big three" is why were a 31st place team.

If we're going from

Kane-Eichel-Pominville
Pouliot-ROR-Okposo
Nolan-Reinhart-Griffith
Moulson-Josefson-Girgensons

Larsson

To

?/Olofsson/Nylander-Eichel-Okposo
Erod-ROR-Reinhart
Wilson-Mitts-Baptiste
Bailey-Girgs-Pominville

We're already miles better and we'll definitely be adding in FA or trades imo. That 4th line I suspect will look different/faster

I would trade all 3 get depth in the organization and bring in some young talent that could be stars

Has there been any indication of where management wants to go this off season?

All seems pretty quiet and I think the speculation on this board warps a lot of what we think will happen.

Why again?

Trade ror- yes if a cant miss trade. Keep him and let him play his game

Sam- why give up on a guy that went 2nd and is 22 years old? Yeah hes soft and might melt in the playoffs

Risto- our best defenseman in 20 years.
Young, difficult to play against, cost controlled

Makes no sense

Build around these guys, until we find a better solution.
See what they can do: when the franchise wants to win

Everyone is looking for this huge overhaul that isn't going to happen. Things are complicated due to the big contracts we have, people think just move ROR and or others players and it will be fine, doesn't work that way. Just sign Tavares or other high priced players and move our high priced players and it will be fine. That won't work either and Botterill know's it, the plan for now is the DRAFT and Draft day and that's it. Botterill isn't dumb, he knows changes need to made but making them with the right deals and players is another story.

1 step at a time, Murray pushed fast and the turn around moving fast set us back again.I don't put all the blame on Murray but they sure did in the meeting they had with him and he looked like a deer in the headlights.

1) Ryan O’Reilly will be 28 or 29 when we’re trying to fight for the playoffs his value is at the highest point you trade him and let’s not forget the game is going faster now he’s not gonna be able to keep up by then probably

2) I don’t trust a guy that all of a sudden starts playing half the season it just shows me he doesn’t have heart and he only cares about one thing “money” and the game is going at a faster rate and he’s not gonna be able to keep up to

3) Ristolainen Is very overrated on these boards I don’t think he’s a number one or franchise defenseman I’ve seen him get Beat on the easiest defensive plays

4) trading maybe two out of the three will help the depth of the organization for winger help and defensive help and Will get some young up and coming players that we can slot on the first or second line

My plan would be:

Jul 1 Sing Stastny to a 2 Year 6.5-7MM deal.
If you can do that
Move ROR for Wing help.

Pegula will have to sign off on that. ROR becomes a hell of a lot more valuable after Jul 1 when his signing bonus is paid. The team you trade him to would only owe him 1MM the rest of the year.

I dont expect
Bailey
Baptiste
Fasching
Nylander
Olofsson

to come in and set the world on fire. there is no indication that the first four are ready to do so and Olofsson has never played on the NHL surface outside maybe a handful of games.
