1 yr deal to remain in sweden. but you would retain his rights.

Retain the right to give him a bunch more cash to come over later...

So we officially signed Persson to an ELC but he’s remaining in Sweden next season...
Weird.

(frank) his rights. Paying a player you know is not going to play is ridiculous.

We don’t pay him. Sweden does. But it will eat the year of his ELC which means he can sign to come over next year at a much higher salary.

could only give him the 1 year ELC based on his age and was already signed this year for his Euro club

Just guarantees that hes oilers property instead of having to outbid everyone if he was a UFA status (assume that would be the case next year)

Pretty smart move to hitch your wagon to him early if you dont mind burning the1 of your 50 contracts

No terms were disclosed but got to think we gave him some signing bonus to be able to lock him into RFA status.

need to see the contract in more detail to see how it breaks down with his UFA vs RFA rights,

Either way if teams could sign him as UFA or RFA next year....the same logic applies, oilers are basically paying him to jump ahead of the line bc he was already contractually obligated to play in Sweden next year.

If you dont mind the contract spot and the 800k or so just to make sure you have 1st right of refusal on the kid. Its not a bad move, surprisingly savvy

looks like SHL reg season ends in March. So if his team is done, im sure there are some NHL performance bonsues for him to come over early to hit as incentive

What makes you think chia did anything other than sign the deal?
And as usual a bunch of the MSM had him penciled in on the 2PP unit already

It's at the point where I just should make a document that references all the "anti Chiarelli" comments with pre-written responses.

Lucic signing sucks refer to article 1.5.

Russell signing sucks refer to article 2.7

Larsson is a slightly better version on Fayne... Refer to idiot clause 7.4.1.

So old and tiresome. Can't tell if sensationalism writing or just fanatical negativity. This coming from a person who certainly sees a lot of negative in many different situations.

On the actual new and somewhat interesting part of the blog. Klefbom and the tenth for Risto.

I find the proposal very interesting.

Klefbom 2 years ago is certainly better than Risto. Pretty much every other year including this last one Risto is clearly the superior defenseman. AND. He is a right shooting puck moving defenseman that would pair well with everyone in our leftorium of defenders.

Klefbom for Risto one for one would be an easy trade to get behind. Cap management would be difficult indeed but also "should" be "possible" without having to move a player like RNH.

As for Klefbom AND the 10th OA. That becomes a slippery slope. I think there is no question in value that Klef and the tenth for Risto is an overpay. Much like the Hall for Larsson trade was clearly an overpay on paper.

The tenth OA in this draft is no where near as valuable as the "Barzel" pick was in that draft. The tenth pick is right at the very end of a very significant drop of talent. A well defined lower tier in the draft. The Oilers most likely will not get to pick in this position so much as wait and hope someone they like falls to them.

I personally believe the Oilers need to draft with the 10 OA this year. Thier prospect pool and cap management situation demands cheap homegrown talent and there is no other way to build this team IMO.

But yet... I am not a fan of Risto but even I have dreamed of a Nurse Risto pairing.

Neither Nurse nor Risto are even remotely close to being good enough to gamble on that pairing carrying the Oil to a cup but it certainly is tantalizing.

In short (lol) I would be against a Klefbom + 10 for Risto but there is a certain appeal to the deal. If Chiarelli could somehow also move out say Russell to free up cap space for some forward help as well... That would be impressive. Or if Buffalo still has thier early 2nd rnd pick a swap of Klefbom + 10 for Risto + 32? In this draft would at least be "ok" in terms of value. That's assuming at ten they will miss out on someone from that second tier of talent.

Such a trade unfortunately does sound like Chiarelli. An overpay, not as gross as exaggerated, to fill a short term need.

These other small deals hoping for a home run are the best way to go right now. Combined with drafting and development.

- Aerchon

On the left side, the sabres have Dahlin, Scandella, McCabe and Guhle. They are absolutely not trading for Klefbom
