I just texted my nephew who bought my house in Mississauga, I asked how much is the hydro bill every two months? He said it is $121.78.

Franking all that money I spent on Reno’s and replacing every appliance, replaced furnace and air conditioning to energy efficient paid off. This is a guy that leaves on everything all day, lol.

We reno'ed our house about five years ago. Contractors were a husband and wife team.

They were in the house at the very end of the process - doing some final electrical work (the electrician was present).

Atomic Wedgie: I'm glad you are here - we have major problems with the electrical - I think you are going to have to re-wire the entire house.

Contactor, ashen-faced: What's wrong?

AW: well, it seems that my wife and kids can turn on all the lights in the house, but I'm the only one that can turn them off.

The electrician and contractor-husband thought it was funny, but Mrs. AW and the contractor wife dudn't like it as much.

Have you ever seen that commercial where the old man keeps turning down the thermostat and the wife keeps turning it up, then he puts a plastic box around it so she can’t touch it? That’s me and the wife to a tee!

One other great Ontario government story:

The Bob Rae government wanted to promote energy efficiency in the home. Outside experts advised them that low-hanging fruit was to encourage people to replace their old, energy-inefficient fridges - they were giant energy hogs.

So the Rae government offered big rebates if you bought a new, energy-efficient fridge. Lots of people took advantage.

Yet they didn't see any declines in energy consumption.

Turns out, when people bought their new fridge, they put their old one in the basement to be the beer fridge.

Nice try, Bob.

As for the housing market being in the pooper - gimme a franking break. We experienced double- digit growth for so franking long. You get no sympathy for (at worst) losing 10% this year - FFS you gained 25% last franking year.

You're right, I work hard my whole life to own a house, pay a couple hundred grand in income tax every year, and I should lose $200K in one year because others can't afford a house.

If you want to stop a market that is crazy because of overseas buying, tax them on the sale of revenue generating properties, not the people that have lived here their whole life and worked hard to buy a house.

My home is my biggest retirement asset.
Makes sense the government should artificially (frank) me on that too.

HUH?

I was talking about the tax that has been put in place to slow down the over inflated housing market because of overseas buying of real estate for pure speculation purposes.

Instead of taxing everyone buying a house, they should tax overseas buyers when they are selling their property if they don't use the properties as their principle residence.

That way the people trying to sell their house that they have been in forever aren't having buyers back out because of being over taxed.
