Bold prediction. Boqvist falls big time. Possibly out of the top 10. Write this down Manvan

short extension doesnt mean his seat isnt a little warm. he hasnt addressed a major issue facing this team and his one good swing at it has (juolevi) has stalled. there was plenty of talk before the extension of reasons to move on from benning with juolevi and virtanen as examples. this draft will become another one of those talking point down the road if it doesnt help the team progress from its rebuild
- johnnykarate

Actually, the opposite is true IMO. He was on the hot seat, then got extended. Don't see how he is now, he will be judged on all his draft picks but it takes a while to see what you really have. For example, It's too early really to comment on Juolevi, by all accounts he had a solid rookie year in a high level Finnish league and got better as the year played out. Way too early to pass judgement.

everyone knows gm contracts always have an extra year. the extension length was reported as "believed to be 3 years", so the way i see it he has 2 more years to transition vancouver out of the basement. the whole point of my original comment was that the pick might reflect a safer player who's ability will translate easier to nhl or a higher risk-higher reward guy, not that he was getting fired any time soon

I don't think he is 'on the hot seat' this coming season. If there is little progress the following season then I would see him being nervous. But to say someone is on the hot seat less than 2 months after getting an extension sounds silly.
If he is on the hot seat immediately after getting a 3 year extension then I would hazard to guess that the current president & ownership are freaking idiots.

6 detroit at the lowest. I'd be suprised if he drops out of the top5 .
- neem55

I hope you are correct but I dont think you are. My only fear in the top 10 is Boqvist

i agree barring something catastrophic that he is safe to be the gm at the 2019 draft, but i do think that in thinking long term about his safety it might come into play in his selection

also saying aquillini and linden are freaking idiots isnt wrong

That's bizarre. The youngest D in the draft, best shot and best skater (or Hughes, but it's really close), RHD and still has time to grow. I see an absolute stud PPQB. LIke Klingberg, Ghost, Werenski good. Were all entitled to opinion, but I don't see where your negativity comes from.

Hot seat does not imply a two year window, which is what your original comment suggested. I feel like your back peddling. I agree he's got a two year window to do a bunch of things, one of the things he will be evaluated on is the Draft. Not on the hot seat.

I think all of his drafting as a whole would play a role but I don't think 1 pick in one draft is going to make or break him.
I stand by your initial comment being silly.

OJ hasn't stalled. When picked all commentators said it was a good pick but that it would take two to three years to make the NHL due to his size.
He's on track.

He would be worth a gamble at 10. I'd be shocked if we took him at 7. People thinking he my may go top 5 are insane Although that would be awesome because it would mean a much better prospect would fall

Edit. Boqvist has a good shot and he is aggressive offensively. But, imo, he has a low IQ. He is constantly out of position and leaving his D partner in a bind. He gets away with it in tier 2 but not in the SHL. Throw in a pair of concussions and he has way too many red flags.

- CanuckDon

This is your issue?! he's 17 playing in a Tier one men's league, playing with guys his own age he dominates. did you watch the U18 tourny? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtZlF6dOdPw

Tier 2 he was starting to play extremely well by the end of the year. I don't really see low IQ, the guy passes and creates seams as well as anyone in the draft except Hughes and Dahlin, has an elite shot already on top of that which I think separates him from Hughes.

not backpeddling at all, i used hot seat as a term of how much pressure he has to meet ownership objectives. i think if boqvist is available his decision will indicate how hot his seat is, if he is comfortable taking a riskier pick or a more nhl-ready one.

its no question aquillini was shopping at replacements so clearly there were some issues with his results, and now we dont know what the new expectations are, i merely suggested this could possibly be an indicator.

anyway sorry hotseat bothered people here. we can stop talking about benning now

Not the hobbit Hughes who can't shoot the puck as hard as Tanev? Or 32year old svechnicov? Or skates like a geriatric dinosaur Boucher?

Bodqvist is the youngest D in the top 60. He was a point a game in the super elite which is the equivalent of the whl. He shoots a cannon and skates like the wind. But he's the one you fear?

Ok, I see what you're doing, I hope Dahlin doesn't fall to us, that would mean something.....

Don't agree. I see John Carlson or Eric Johnson. Not a great skater but above average. Were not talking Schenn level with cement feet, you're taking it a bit far from reality.

Please God, please trade Toews to Montreal. Please! So I never have to be reminded about how much sorrow he has caused me.

I'd prefer a right handed defense man over a forward. It depends what the teams above us do.

Personally I see it as the following:

Buffalo Dahlin
Carolina Svechnikov (hoping I spelled that somewhat close)
Montreal Zadina
Ottawa Boqvist
Arizona (Wild Card)Wahlstrom/Hughes
Detroit (Wild Card) Hughes/Tkachuk
Van Bouchard/Dobson

Can't see Arizona passing up on Wahlstrom but they also need defense

The ironic thing about this is that Boquist is probably the hardest one to get a lot of tape on, similar to Dahlin there just isnt a ton out there unlike the NA players and kids that play here. Willing to take the scouts word on Dahlin, but not Boquist. In favor of the guys you can see lots of footage of, and who look great because they play with kids their own age. I see where you are coming from, as he didn't do well playing SHL, but a 17 year old that plays ppg game at the superelite level at 17 is special IMO.

Didn't they pick D the last two years? I'd be shocked if they passed on Wahlstrom or Tkachuk.

Either way, I see a pretty similar scenario playiing out, I would really like to see some of those guys drop but I think we will have hughes/Dobson/bouchard to choose from which is pretty sweet. Just get it right!
