Rooting for Bay still
Bay vs Las Vegas would be a wierd Finals, I pred!ck:
Bay in 5 over Cap
Las Vegas over Jet in 6
Then Bay over Vegas in 7 - Slimtj100
I am thinking Tampa in 6. Jets in 7.
And Tampa over Jets in 7 in the final.

Homer-ism aside (mostly), this Tampa squad is f-ing stacked and dangerous. Even with a gimpy Stamkos, the Lightning are finding ways to win. They are a possession monster and PDO kings.
I just hope the PDO well doesn't run dry.
I like Ovi (despite his insane Putin love affair) and would love to see him win a Cup - just not this year.

Nashville over Vegas in the west.
Nashville over Tampa for the Cup.
Well, that didn't turn out as planned.
Tampa over Wash in 6.
Jets over Vegas in 7.
Tampa over Jets in 7. |

From Elliotte Friedman’s 31 thoughts:
.The Rangers were interested in (Jim) Montgomery, which is why Dallas snapped him up quickly. Do not be surprised if New York’s next bench boss has never coached in the NHL before. You are always looking for connections, which is why Boston University’s David Quinn is a prominent mention. Here’s another: In 2015, the Oshawa Generals won the Memorial Cup. Adam Graves, who works for the Rangers in hockey and business operations, has an ownership stake in that team. The coach was D.J. Smith, now an assistant in Toronto. |

I was working at the Roy Rogers in West Babylon and my boss told me "Hey, Oilers just traded Wayne Gretzky"
me: "Rangers?"
him: "no but you guys traded Walt Poddubny for Rochefort" - jimbo83
I remember that all very well, Jim, especially when those 2 trades were announced.
First, I recall during my work travels in grabbing Roy Rogers on the run when on the Island, in doing so mostly at either their Plainview location, or your West Babylon work one. Was that you on a break I would see wearing a mid to late 80's Rangers giveaway cap in that predominantly Red color, paid for by a sponsor of their's back then?
Second, that Walt Poddubny deal resulted in another of their horrible trades ever made, in dealing (their recent year or two ago sadly deceased), star Center and a few other minor degree players for d'man, Normand Rochefort in key, plus Center, Jason Lafrenierre in the summer of 1988.
Lafrenierre only lasted 1 season, playing about half a season's worth of games, while Rochefort survived 3 or 4, but playing in only 100 or slightly more total games in barely cracking their lineup.
Poddubny played awesome here for two seasons in tallying 78 Goals & 97 Assists for 175 Points. The only reason for that trade was the Rangers missing the playoffs in his second of two seasons here in 1987/88, after qualifying for them the prior 10 straight, including their Cup Finals loss to Montreal in the 1978/79 season. |

I previously mentioned Leafs assistant coach, T.J. Smith as an option on your prior blog, Jan, (although a lower one), despite him known as a vocal in nature coach, which could be good as a developmental type up to a certain point, but less to that vocal of a Tortorella.
However, prior to Smith, should Barry Trotz likely be re-signed to a new Capitals contract within weeks, his assistant in Todd Reirdon would be the better current NHL assistant who may seek a head coaching chance elsewhere. But Gorton would need permission from the Caps to have the right to talk to him. A year ago, the Caps prevented both the Sabres and Panthers from talking to him, prior to choosing Phil Housley and Bob Boughner, respectively as their new head coaches.
I also felt the Rangers were first waiting to talk to Sheldon Keefe, or then consider Todd Nelson who had interim coaching experience with Edmonton in 2015, prior to Todd McLellan being hired. Drew Bannister of the OHL's, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds would likely be the last of the minor league type possibly qualified, as per his success with them.
Sandelin is also a possibility. But I wondered if successful St. Cloud St., and Team U.S.A. World Juniors Championship team coach in Bill Motsko would ever consider the jump to the NHL, in also being an NCHC Coach of the Year winner.
If none above here are possible, then the first retread option I would consider would be Dave Tippett. |
