Don't forget you're getting into UFA years so cost will go up. I think Rust gets closer to 3.5M than 2.5M. - Tojo.
Tojo I was referring to Hagelin. I do believe Rust deserves to earn a bit more money. |

In a perfect world you move hunwick sheary Simon and Rowney. In order to make this stuff happen someone bigger is going too. Someone we want to stay, and it's not hags. Hags stays as his 4mil last year deal is basically the raise jake gets after next year. I could see someone like maata moved. Teams will absolutely want him. It's counter to think that way as we need defence...but I'd assume Ruth would be all over flipping our d on it's head. We could see upto 3 different players back there next year. - taleisyreXIII
I could see guentzel in the 5-6 range on next contract depending how he plays. Cap will be a lot higher by the time he signs; big bump this year and a bump next year.
If he was UFA I"d be curious what he could get. Does he get a playoff stud bump?
I still think hunwick might be movable. With new cap his contract is like 1.75 a year. Not that unusual for a defensemen with a live pulse.

That's fair. I think Subban is a beast and a top 10 D in the league. - Feds91Stammer
Like Letang? #58 got injuries and spent too much time off the ice but he should be good to go next year. |

No. Economy pretty good. Numbers I've seen 78-82 next year. Should be solid jump. |

I really like Rust but I could see him getting moved. He is an upside grinder but is going to look for a similar contract to Sheary which he isn't worth (neither is Sheary of course).
I think Simon or ZAR could replace him easily on an entry level contract. - MacPatty
I think ZAR could replace Sheary's skill, but Simon is the most vanilla player in recent memory. I don't want him anywhere near the NHL. But it terms of Rust, his value isn't in his offensive skill (because he really doesn't have much) but his speed and how he uses it, Which is absolutely unreplaceable by those two players. I think he gets 2-2.5 because he hasn't really had that breakout season interms of points that Sheary had last year. |

I dunno why people think players can just come in and bang out 30-40 points. I don't think it works like that. There are a bunch of dummies (Mackey included) that think Sprong can replace Kessel's 90 point production. This team doesn't need drastic changes. They lost in the 2nd round in 6 games and had a bunch of injuries. A healthy team probably puts up a better fight. - j.boyd919
Because those players are gonna be playing with 87 and 71, anf for the lat 13 years, thay have been inflating their linemates stats. So i would take 5-10pts off of what ever average you are using. |

Rowney's contract is up, so he should be gone. I expect GMJR to give Hunwick a chance to rebound. Simon is okay, don't love him or hate him. I don't dislike Sheary like everyone else, but I do think he is the guy who gets moved. - j.boyd919
Also, you have to remember that Sheary is engaged to Sully's niece, and while obviously it doesn't mean much at all. but if GMJR asked Sully between two players, he may choose to keep Sheary because of that. |

The strength of the Pens has been their ability to bring guys up through the system who do just that. The problem is you will end up overpaying everyone if you pay according to stats.
Sheary put up one good season and they overpaid him. Rust had a solid regular season and has scored clutch goals in past playoffs. That being said, he is a 26 year old grinder who has yet to stay healthy for a full season. Anything more than $2M and I would cut ties. - MacPatty
Thats exactly what i was going to say, u start giving out sheary deals u screw yourself. Not to say i dont like shears , i like rust more but anything over 2m im sure there are guys who are better willing to take a cut to get a run with geno n sid. Mostly any decent player should put up 30-40p playing in the top 6 |

Is that why guys like Bennett, Plotnikov, Wilson, Kuhnackl, and company are still around, putting up 30-40 points? Playing with Sid/Geno/Phil does not automatically equal success, so when you find it, you don't ship it out because it's the norm and expect it to "just happen" again. |

For
DeKeyser or Dailey.

Just out of curiosity who are the clear cut better defensemen than Letang in the league?
1. Karlsson
2. Burns
3. Headman
4. Subban
After that we have a tier that includes Doughty, OEL, Giordano, Werenski, Jones, Faulk, McDonagh maybe Dougie Hamilton, and Letang.
How many of those guys are definitely better than Letang? I'd probably say that Faulk, McD, and Hamilton definitely are not. Werenski and Jones may be better eventually but aren't right now probably. Probably Doughty. OEL and Giordano are tossups. |

Yeah I'm sure I missed guys. Its tough to put together a best of list and remember everyone in a 31 team league haha. |
