honestly I don't think he gives a poop who wins it. I'm sure he hopes for big market American teams due to exposure and potential growth but it's way overblown imo.

Just talked with Chris Tanev on SN 650 and he says he and the #Canucks have talked about multiple ways for him to prevent injuries in the future. #Canucks

I have a theory why Canadian teams don't win the Cup anymore but it doesn't involve Bettman. It has to do with internal and external pressure, poor management/decisions from that pressure and not using the draft to rebuild.

Teams are close but the Preds are outshooting WPG by over 30 shots total at home..could eventually be a factor.

Plus Ellis,Ekholm, Josi, Subban have experience and the ability to step up in the PO's where I haven't really seen WPG's D (other than Byfuglien) really having impact. WPG's D have shown flashes but NSH's D is the best top 4 D in the PO's and that's pretty big.

Plus the Turris/Ehlers factor. Ehlers has been completely invisible this PO's and Turris has only 3 assists but the puck has been around Turris that past few games. Turris has good PO experience with OTT from last year and it could propel him over Ehlers in GM 7. Ehlers to me has shown nothing in the way of breaking out. a great Regular season player but it's looking like he is a PO bust so far.

Very true. A CDN cup champ doesn't help Gary pump the markets he needs to pump. It's as much about cash as anything else to keep the CDN teams down. If people don't believe that Bettman doesn't have influence in this one way or the other then they shouldn't be watching Hockey

The Canadian fans will keep showing up year after year, but in the States where hockey is less followed you have to win to get people on the bandwagon

#Canucks announce the 2018 Young Stars Classic will return to the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton, BC from Friday, September 7th to Sunday, September 9th. Just Canucks and Jets play 2 games each. UBC and U of Alberta play each other twice.

6-4, 212 pound F Zack MacEwen will be 1 of many #Canucks prospects trying to impress at the Young Stars Classic, "It will be cool to be apart of Penticton, I have to keep working hard and improving."

Sounds like Calgary, Edmonton are out.

I don't know if you can apply that to canadian teams as a whole though because while that pressure definitely exists, many of the teams have taken totally different approaches. The difference in management styles between Winnipeg, Edmonton, Toronto, and Montreal for example are pretty different imo.

You don't see every team caving to pressure. Edmo certainly has but WPG and TOR have fairly healthy organizations at the moment. Montreal's failures are mostly just the result of sheer incompetence over the last several years.

Canadian fans showing up regardless is another myth. Crowds in Vancouver aren't great right now, if you went to a game this year? They're trying to come up with ways to engage fans right here in our market.

Ottawa, same thing, Edmonton fans are fed up, Calgary less than 100% capacity, it's a myth. Only in Montreal and Toronto do they blindly show up.

I went to a couple of games this year and the stadium was full both times but the games were the season opener and the Chinese New Year game vs. the Bruins so maybe that's not a fair representation.

I guess my point is we were a horrible team for many stretches of the year but the team still drew a decent amount of fans whereas there were american teams in the playoff hunt that had half capacity or less.

I don't know Lefty...over 18,000 fans per game is impressive given they have been brutal lately.

I attend the majority of the games and xmas on the stadium was actually full and pretty electric. Building certainly seems more lively than past years. Perhaps its due to Boeser and the Sedin's final season

Some of the numbers near the bottom seem a little high. Did Florida really average over 13k per game?

Go by percentage and you have Ottawa at 27th and Van at 23. Cgy 19, Edmonton 18th.

Recently yes, different approaches, there's been a paradigm shift the past five to six years but it's been almost thirty since a Canadian team won.

Toronto used the draft recently, Winnipeg same for the past six years and kept patient with owners support, Edmonton used the tank and draft method only recently but weren't smart enough to use the entire draft and solely relied on 1st round picks. Canucks finally started tanking when they realized they'd put together poop teams, but only recently.

That's probably 3000 tickets given away to radio stations and free tickets to minor league teams.
