Just because you say something, dosnt make it true

Carlson has played as the number 1 D in Washington and has played excellent in it. Take your saltieness about him somewhere else

- Santo_44

There is no doubt he is better then Gardner, but at 7M a season i think it would end up being a very bad signing. Especially when he likely reverts to his regular numbers of 30-40 points.

I love Polak at 1.1

Had a another good playoff. Smashed a few guys into the boards. During the season he tends to get called for this, but come playoff time the whistles go away...

- Hockey_Reverend

Yeah, the Leafs need another big body with skill in the top 9 as well.

I'd take Nash on a one year deal, they have 25+ million in cap space. It's not my money, they can do whatever on a one year deal and I'm happy

Leafs and Bruins are down.

I don't care who wins anymore.

7 M for a top pairing 30-40 point free agent doesn't seem out of this world.

there are much worse dollar deals out there.

I'd be afraid of the term more than the price.

the underlying numbers tell a different story.

sure, he had 68 points.. However, he also had a 0 +/- rating; a 49.2 Corsi for rating and a fenwick percentage of 47.9..

Come on man, Carlson broke out at 23/24. Like most D man. I don't care how many points he had at 20-23. Same with Reilly.

He had 55 points at 24
39 points in 55 GAMES at 25
37 points in 72 at 26
68 points in 82 games at 27

He had one semi down year. This notion he is a 30-40 point d man is laughable. You guys are like UG saying teams from 5-10 years ago are relevant.

Looking at just Corsi is stupid

Zone starts, quality of comp, etc are all important. I don't give a poop what Corsi he has.

Check the hero charts at the end of the year, they always tell a good story with all considered if you believe in that crap

The more I think about it the more I'd love Carlson

7x7 no problem.

Do you give Carlson 7x7 or do you wait for the slim chance of getting Doughty or Karlsonn for 7x12

- Santo_44

Big long-term contracts rarely work out in sports when talking about the second major deal for an athlete (age 26-30) Other than an exceptional player that has not had major injury issues, odds are stacked against getting good value from a deal.

Would I take a chance on JT, not many others though, especially not Carlson.

Oh so you would "take a chance" on JT eh?

I like it! Living with the risk!

Marincin is an RFA.

I don't really see why they would give him an offer.

I played Friday in the wind storm. We had gusts of 92km/h with the regular being about 65-70km/h. It was a great day, you just had to laugh at how ridiculous it was. Watching drives just crushed go about 150 yards. We made a points system tourney so it was competitive. No carts were allowed on the course, I’m assuming so they wouldn’t be blown over.

I ran home from work Friday night.

I was running on the Beltline (an old railway line, converted into a path - old trees lining both sides) and having fun jumping over the various sticks that had fallen off of trees. Wheee, what fun!

Until I came to the first downed tree, which would have killed anyone it it had hit them. Suddenly I realized this wasn't so fun, and I needed to get the hell off the Beltline.

There are probably better d-men available by trade. Carolina has an excess of d-men and not much scoring up front. Carlson's numbrers were padded by playing with OV, just like JVR had his best season playing significant time with Marner.

i think you're buying a 40-50 point well rounded dman. can't expect +60 points.

if we can him him for 7 or less i'd be on board.

Honestly I hope they go ahead and explore all available options... we know the defence needs work, and we know we are weak at center. McBackUp is fine but could be upgraded as well even if they don't think they can play him more games to take a bit more off Freddy.

Overall still lots of work to be done, be it adding JT, Carlsson, whoever...

Exaclty

Brian Campbell, he was signed to a 7 year 7 million dollar contract to the Hawks, ironically at the same time period of where the Leafs are right now. Was he slighly overpaid? sure, but he was a huge reason for all the cups.

The media doesn't like talking about those signings.

Like I said my learned friend, there are many good players that sign second major deals - and they are good players, but the length of the contract lends to the opportunity for the player to be well past his best before date and the team suffering at the end of the deal - Seabrook and Hossa are reasonable examples. The fact that the Hawks got away with a bullpoop injury story is besides the point. I think Tavares will produce to the end of such a contract, I'm not sure I would pay $10 million for a 35 year old Toews though.

Very True, and like Mussel pointed out, length is usually more of the problem than the actual salary.

Oh ya. Trees down everywhere. You weren’t going to look for your ball if it was in the trees. That and the flags were almost hitting the ground from being bent over from the wind. The fear was the wind catching one of those and then soaring through air like javelin!

Not a great example. Campbell was only there for one cup. They had to clear cap space so he got dealt the next year.
