He was a complete GardinOrr down the stretch with none of the offense.
- AdamFrench

Really? complete or just partial? Because if he was only a partial Gardiner, can we keep him and get rid of the real Gardiner?

But seriously, I thought he was pretty good. Maybe next year he will have adjusted more to the NA game? I hope he gets a shot...

Agree on Tavares, forget Bozak - if Leafs have Kadri,JT and Matthews up front, fourth line centre can be a league minimum guy. A number one defensive d-man - is the tough one. Carlson is the top free agent. Coming off a way better than ever season, and he is average at best defensively. Green also available, again not a defensive d-man. Trades for a number one guy tough - Leafs would have to give up alot.

Guy has a career year. Lets sign him to a huge contract to become our saviour #1 d man. What could go wrong?

Borgman can be a good 5-6 guy here, he's a good skater and can play physical..

Totally agree, you have to stay away from Carlsson after his career year. Has awful signing written all over it.

well the one to be bumped up is Dermott if they move Gardiner. but I wouldnt expect Liljegren to be a factor next season at all
- senstroll

Yeah, no chance he plays with the Leafs next season. At most 1 or 2 games if multiple people get hurt.

He's gonna probably be one of the top guys on the Marlies next season and he'll actually get some power play time. That's most likely what the Leafs will do with him.

OMG, you know that Hockeybuzz has a cap tool that shows you the numbers right???

Those dead weight players didnt play, and alot of players that did will get a raise. How is that so hard for you to understand.

It's fairly simple math. some players were already signed for more then they received this season.

Jonathan Marchessault - 9.25 > 5M
Brayden McNabb 1.7 > 2.5
They added Tomas Tartar at the deadline 5.3

They need to resign/replace:

William Karlsson RFA >5MM min
Shea Theodore RFA>2.5M min
Tomas Nosek RFA >1.5M min
David Perron UFA >5M min
Colin Miller RFA > 3M min
Ryan Reaves RFA FREE to a good home
Tomas Hyka RFA FREE to a good home (6th round pick - useless)
William Carrier RFA League minimum at best 11 points in 78 games giant POS
Stefan Matteau RFA 7 points in 64 games league minimum
Luca Sbisa UFA Likely Gone, but if he signs about $4 million
James Neal UFA GONE

Let me know exactly what you think those players would sign for....

- Archaic

Roster size according and cap hits according to CAP FRIENDLY 19 players committed to $51 million leaving four roster spots - so they have to move some players and contracts out.

Agreed, he has been in the league for the better part of 8 seasons and only has scored 50 or more points in 2 of those seasons and he has a career 49.5 corsi. For a team as good as Washington has been the past 8-10 years, him being under 50% is, you know.. not good.

I could see him being called up late in the season, but I agree.

imo these D would be ahead of him..so it would be one hell of an IR

Holl
Marincin
Rosen
Borgman
Nielsen

and whoever they might add before the season starts.
i cant see any way he gets NHL time next year

- senstroll

Marincin is an RFA.

I don't really see why they would give him an offer.

He probably re-signs with Washington - and its a good thing for the Leafs. He's marginally better than Gardiner defensively, which is a problem.

You link doesnt work.

Regardless if those players are gone, they still have to replace some of them. They arent free.

They dont have enough for JVR/Tavares. I don't see it. In fact, I think theyll go after Carlsson before they even look at JVR.

Think Marincin is definitely gone and could see Borgman replacing Polak as well.

The more I think about it the more I'd love Carlson

7x7 no problem.

Do you give Carlson 7x7 or do you wait for the slim chance of getting Doughty or Karlsonn for 7x12

That's what I saw. Guy is built like a tank and can hit, but also can skate the puck out of the zone. Not an offensive dynamo, but that is not what we need...

We paid Polak $1.1 million last year.

I have no problem bringing him back for another year at that salary.

Carlsson is not worth what he will get. Playing big minutes with OV padded his offence. He was number one d-man on a good power play. Still, with 68 points, finish with a 0 in +/-

I just think Borgman brings the same though will say while younger doesn't have Polak's experience. I think he has better skating though over Polak. Save a little but not much but think it's time to move on from Polak.

I love Polak at 1.1

Had a another good playoff. Smashed a few guys into the boards. During the season he tends to get called for this, but come playoff time the whistles go away...

I agree, its just who I think they will go after. I do not want Carlsson on the Leafs for anywhere close to 7M

I poop you not, I was golfing with a larger guy this weekend and he stepped in a small hole and all his momentum almost flung him forward down a hill...kind of hard not to laugh at now, but at the time I was like dude you almost just ate it playing 18 holes with a cart
- RickJames77

I played Friday in the wind storm. We had gusts of 92km/h with the regular being about 65-70km/h. It was a great day, you just had to laugh at how ridiculous it was. Watching drives just crushed go about 150 yards. We made a points system tourney so it was competitive. No carts were allowed on the course, I’m assuming so they wouldn’t be blown over.

Just because you say something, dosnt make it true

Carlson has played as the number 1 D in Washington and has played excellent in it. Take your saltieness about him somewhere else

When is plus/minus all of a sudden relevant.

And why can't Carlson get any credit for the PP? If you watch the games you can clearly see he is a big part of it.

That PP is much worse without Carlson
