Could trade for Spezza.
The Leafs have so much cap space, they will get creative with it. Especially if Dubas is the GM. - Santo_44
yeah, taking on bad contracts could be an option. spezza can still play a little.
orprik, ennis, p.martin and kronwall could all be dead money contracts we take on.
we're going to have cap space to burn. gotta use it. |

I know Coyle had a disappointing season but he scored 56 points last year.... I don't think a third pairing defenseman and a 2nd is gonna cut it.
Especially since he was the "main" return for them in the Brent Burns trade.... losing him for so little afterwards would be a hard pill to swallow. - Scabeh
Fletcher lost his job partly because of that trade. Wouldn't be surprised if they wanted nothing to do with that trade anymore. |

He's a creative guy, if he takes over there are for sure plenty of things he would of done differently than Lou. And he will change them, and with 25 million in cap space after they sign Nylander it's a sure thing. - Santo_44
I honestly doubt MLSE will leave their most important franchise in hands of a guy with very limited experience when they can wave a 5million / year contract to get a 'sure' guy. |

Also possible. I target Minny as a trade partner because they fired their GM and it looks like they want to re-build/re-tool. You could trade away the sharks 2nd round pick this year but I doubt the Leafs do that as they already moved their own for Pleks at the deadline.
Staal and Spurgeon are the two guys I target on Minny. I'd take Ennis back as a salary dump too. - Aaron_85
I just highly doubt they will want to trade either of them.
Spurgeon is still young and on a great contract.
Staal is on a great contract.
I can't see it at all. The Leafs will look at players who are available.

But yes, I wonder if the Caps would be at all interested in a Orpik/Wilson trade. Where Martin also goes the other way. |

i am also assuming the Leafs dont sign Tavares. If they do it limits these options somewhat.
But like i said they have plenty of space for this coming season. so taking a bad contract thats only 1 season works - senstroll
Oh yeah I'm assuming this is as a secondary option behind Tavares.

Leivo (He's legit a throw in...just let the man play somewhere!)
Toronto probably has to use a better prospect than Carrick though. |

Minny should at least be looking to move Staal. he's 33 and the team is looking to re-tool/re-build. He won't be there for them winning, not in the role he's in now, so the new GM will most likely want more assets. He's an ideal guy to trade. Spurgeon is an outsiders chance the Leafs could land him but hey...this is a forum, I get to wish whatever I want. |

We need a guy like Wilson.
And he loves playing in Toronto, at least against the Leafs.
Him and Kadri would be a hard line to play against, and add in Kappys speed on that line and it's a threat. |

You know it's easy to criticize and cut down other people's thoughts and opinions. Why don't you suggest actual movement or replacements for the holes the team have? |

Martin(500,000 retained) B prospect
Allows the Caps to sign Carlson, plus any remaining FA's. And still gives the Caps a player who can hit...just not as much skill |

Other then Bracco and the 1st in 2019 it doesn't matter. The others are prospects who are so far down the depth chart in Toronto. |

If you are dumping Orpiks 5.5 million, you need to give.
If they don't then bye bye Carlson, but maybe they are fine with that who knows |
