JVR in his draft year he was projected as a 'speedy nhl powerforward, with a great wristshot like Jeremy Roenick'.

JVR only this season showed a bit more of that wristshot, but powerforward is a big 'no' and I keep on reading he's 'speedy' - is it his skating style, or is he indeed not very fast.. (he always seems the slowest skater on the team ?).

If Leafs can indeed trade Gardiner and not resign Komarov, Bozak, JVR - Leafs have alot of capspace to work with this off-season.

- MaximusAurelius

seems like they should bring in 1-2 guys on big money 1 year deals.

ufa: thornton. other?

trade: ?. if zetterberg plans to retire at the end of next year, i'd say he's a guy to target.

Poor Canes...what is going on there?

I hope they can find a goalie who can not stink up the joint next season. they deserved better.

But Waddell?

that doesnt seem good

- senstroll

And Brind'Amour is the new head coach.

I thought Zetterberg already said he wasn't playing next season?

DONE!
- .OHOH.

You will get part of your wish, can't see any way he doesn't get traded. It won't be for pick number 10, maybe a 2nd, a 3rd and a bag of farts.

they hired Rod Brind'Amour as the new Head Coach.

Maybe Waddell was the only person willing to work for $400K per year

- PatC80

I should have just read a few posts after the one a I just responded to. Someone already said what I did.

A lot better options, but how many capable GM's would be willing to work for a $400k salary?
- PatC80

not if you are looking at the same tired circle of GMs.
Nonis is interviewing for the Minny job.. what about his resume makes you think he is any good as a GM?

it won't help next season at all, but Gardiner is a UFA after next season, so turning that into a top 10 pick is yuuuuuge
- PatC80

agreed...it's a pre-emptive decision on Gardiner's future as a Leaf

Nah, him and Andrew Shaw are true warriors who will never, ever, ever stop. No matter how banged up and useless they become.

maybe even a player almost as valuable to the leafs as Gardiner who can help in 5 years.

Unless they have some magic deals up their sleeves to get 2 top pairing D this offseason you have to get more than that for Gardiner.

So far under Lou they have not been willing to move a player who is helping the team now just to get assets for them (JVR, Bozak). that might change with a new GM...no idea

- senstroll

Absolutely, you're right, it may not have any impact until 3-5 years down the road;
I'm just saying that if the Leafs have no intention of re-signing Gardiner, than trading him for a top 10 pick is good value.

Let's play another game of "Leafs take on a bad contract in exchange for an asset".

TOR gets: C Charlie Coyle (2x $3.2M), LW Tyler Ennis (1x $4.6M)
MIN gets: LD Andreas Borgman, Toronto's 2018 second round pick

Who says no?

puts out some interesting trade scenarios.

I would do that deal

If the choices are down to a potato or Nonis, than yeah, you hire the potato every time.

Nonis was able to give us the Lupul contract, which is a big reason that the Leafs were able to take advantage of the LTIR

It's not horrible. It's essentially the same dollars for Bozak and JVR this past year without the commitment to them.

I for some reason want Spurgeon and Staal though.

I agree. But depending what pick it is in the top 10, one team would probably need to add.
