Kind of wishing I put $500 on Vegas to win the cup at the start of the season when the odds were 500/1 for poops and giggles.
Would be quite the profit!
$250,000!
But that's probably why they won't win it... They'll be losing so much money from ppl that bet. |

Vegas....does the NHL look foolish if they win the cup? - Garnie
imo it really shows how much luck is involved in wining a cup. other GMs can hand a team players ( they didnt want) good enough to win a cup is really something.
some GMS (Tallon) handed them a top line so they didnt take a certain player

as far as 'facts' go in this category - you do realise he was chosen by his peers for award as best GM in NHL, right? - MaximusAurelius
You know that Mike Gillis also won GM of the year award before right? thats a fact, not an opinion BTW. Just because someone wins the GM of the year award, doesnt make him the best.
Is he good, sure, the best? I dont think so, in my opinion. |

From a business point of view?
They look like geniuses. - Feeling Glucky?
I guess, not sure I'd be happy if I was an owner who wants to win a cup.

Well the fact is that the won the award.
And the award is based on an opinion of his peers.

FLA looks foolish letting Gallant go IMO....Vegas is good and fast, not sure it's mostly luck....I think the NHL made it too easy for them to get the talent...I doubt most of the teams wanted to lose quite a few of these guys. ( I realize there's some luck )
Anyways...sucks they're better then the Leafs already. |

Oh for sure.
In fact I'm not quite sure how anyone could claim something like this... there's nothing to measure "quality of GM" with.
Plenty of them doing a good job. |

Fastest way to rebuild is not through the draft. Teams need to go bankrupt, reapply for a team and do a team-by-team draft. Way faster - Beatle_john
So true. Especially so, when you have some serious help from the dirtiest (dirtier than Ho-Ho's browser history!) commissioner in sports.

I think this is more lightning a bottle season for them. I don't think they'll be anywhere close to this good next year. All the players are having career years, and they'll lose players as well.
I am wondering if this could be a bad thing long term for them with all their fans expecting them to be good every year. What happens when they aren't, will their fans jump ship?
I also think they'll lose to Winnipeg or Nashville |

almost everybody on these boards (and alot of media as well) thought Vegas had a mediocre expansion draft; not taking some players that were 'better' but available.
Vegas did not select the best players, but they managed to get a perfect team together - it seems they did a wonderful job of selecting players with the rigth mindset that jointly form a great unit. Next season, Vegas might not even make the playoffs, but for now, this is working out really well. |

I don't know...pretty solid team, play a good speed game ( coach maybe, not sure )
Just because some guys overachieved....they also got the ice time they needed to get to those #'s...maybe they didn't overachieve by as much as we think.
But you're right...some teams have a real good year and then miss the PO's the next. |

Florida could probably have made the playoffs with some better moves. But Tallon will fix the problems the computer boys created
It just seems like everything the Knights did or who they were told to pick instead of this player worked out. |

I've waited for Vegas to fall all year.
I'm still waiting.
All of their "main" guys are coming back next season... and imo they had a very solid amateur draft last year.... so more help is on the way.
The only guy important player they could lose is Neal I think? Sbisa and Perron too I guess?
Nothing they can't replace. |

meh...we differ in our opinion of spreadsheet hockey, it's all good.
Why would you change your team around after the best season ever? I could see if it was a bad season....but whatever....helps the Leafs for now. |
