I know, we are talking about something much more important, cap space in a finite world.
- Mentalorgasm5

This team has real cap issues 2-3 years out. We're talking about a small hit in the year before. They might not consider it enough to force their decision.

This is what it comes down to. If an NHL team is looking for veteran depth on the league min, and Moulson is interested, I think the Sabres at least consider doing a favor to him and buying him out. If the budget allows for a 670k cap hit for 19-20, why not.

In a cold machine, the BO makes no sense. But you're dealing with people. And a veteran who doesn't complain.

- TheSabresTaco

Arizona might need help getting to the floor. Maybe he could be moved thee. 3 million cash, with a 5 million cap hit. They like those type of contracts.

I agree
Moulson was a good sport getting buried last year & not complaining
It’s just a class move to give him a chance to move on
Especially since, like u point out, there’s no real financial damage to us in the process

He only played 7 games after he signed
So while that burned a year of his ELC,
it doesn’t count as a “season”

Just like this past year with Mittelstadt
That’s why Mitts won’t have to be protected in the upcoming expansion draft with Seattle

- jdfitz77

You're misapplying things.

For players whom are 20 or older, the year in which they play their first Professional Game (e.g. NHL, AHL, ECHL, KHL, European Leagues) is the year which is considered their first year towards the waiver exemption; however, the player must be under an NHL contract.

Not sure we why would trade a home grown defenseman with a great contract?

Pretty much one of the Sabres toughest guys.
We need to add toughness not get rid of these guys

The Sabres? No we don’t
Not unless there’s a lockout & the Cap go down
But if that’s the case,
we’d be allowed to buy guys out like last time without it hurting our Cap
We are in fine shape as of now

If we add guys like Tavares &/or Carlson...
then we gotta move some salary out
But not till Dahlin is getting his next contract at the earliest,
which would be 4 seasons from now

Another angle to it, you do a favor for him like this, free agents look at the team a little differently. "Hey, look what they did for Moulson. They respect their players."

I think it's worth something.

Not going to spend much time arguing this with you. Make a reasonable projection and start paying Guhle, Ullmark, Reinhart, Dahlin, and Mittelstadt. Hand out raises to McCabe, Scandella, Baptiste etc. If you project 23 players, it gets really tight 3 years from now.

Apparently this Russ Brandon thing goes back to January
- Stripes77

News 4 Sports' Nick Filipowski received a statement from the NFL on Brandon, stating...

"We will discuss the matter with the club and make a decision in the next few days about what, if any, further steps we will take."

Filipowski also reached out to the NHL, and received a statement from league office EVP of Communications Gary Meagher stating...

“We have consulted with the Club and have determined it’s appropriately a Club matter.”

What's the most telling here is that these statements spell out to the public that Russ Brandon did something wrong, despite his public statement explaining that he was leaving because he "thought it was time."

I mean, it's the most obvious thing to say publicly, but it's overwhelmingly obvious that the Pegula's let him resign instead of firing him.

I did this the other day, it was a long post.

It gets tight

Now if Dahlin wins a Norris during his ELC it gets even tighter because he is going to get $10-$12 million per year.

Anyone have an idea of who'd they like to see or what position they'd like to see picked at #32?

Its a business, he has made how much money for not producing? No way would I waste more money for good will.

Does anybody know what happens if Moulson retires?

It may be a real possibility. His cap hit is $5m, but he's only making $1.6 in real money (or something close). With his career earnings, it may not even be worth it to him to continue

I think we get hit with a cap recapture penalty. If he goes that route, it wouldn't be such a bad thing.

I already have
And like i said...
a raise for Dahlin wouldn’t kick in till year FOUR

You said 2-3yrs
By the time Dahlin is due, we have a lot of $$$ off the books
Plus the Cap will keep going up
I assure you, we are “fine”

I just looked, he gets a $1m signing bonus on July 1, then has a $2m base salary. He may collect the bonus and retire

It was brought up as a joke, but I like Rasmus Sandin. He might not make it to 32, but may. 45pts in 51 games this year for Sault Ste. Marie. A little undersized, but he adapted well to the NA game. I think he's a safe, but solid top4-D pick.

Sorry, yeah I just looked it up. $3m, but $1m is a signing bonus
