I didnt realize that. what is his expected new contract?

He's refusing to sign with Florida so I'm not sure if he goes back to the draft or he's a free agent

Anyone can lose. But he got Mitts, Olo, Borgen and Nelson to all put pen to pad when they had other options. He also made, what I think to be, some good trades acquiring Scandella and Wilson for cheap.

I like the direction. I wasn't a fan when he was hired, thought it was another rookie GM we didn't need to give the reins...think I was wrong.

He basically went with the wild card I don't think anybody here thought Casey was the pick there's no way..

He could have went the safe route but he did his own thing that's a good GM/Scout

Should've mentioned that too. Taking a kid out of HS took cojones too, you're right.

Time will tell, but IMO he will be here a very long time.

Lucking out for Dahlin was exactly why I hated the attempt at speeding up the rebuild in 2016.

Imagine the feeling of drafting Matthews and Eichel back to back?

This might end up being better than that with Dahlin

What makes you think it's easy to lose and secure the top defensive prospect in 25 years.

You really think none of the other gms/owners knew dahlin was available this season?

Sure , Sabres were the only ones .....

I know a guy that puts up better then decent numbers and plays a ton of minutes.

I think he can stop gap the 2c spot and move right over
to wing when Mitts is ready

If he doesn't cry about it.

Ror

- Boss34

I like it, keeping ROR until Mitts is ready to take over, I have posted that sentiment a couple of times previously. It is a similar scenario as when Eichel was drafted.

The only issue I have has nothing to do with his production. Largely it is the $7.5M contract that paid a premium to him for his leadership and grooming the younger guys into professional players posed to challenge for a championship run.

**IF** the reports are true of the rift with Jack, coupled with his rather pointed comments on locker clean-out day ... that just doesn’t stack-up in my book as a key player on a team I would be trying to build to contend.

So, I would target a trade with him as a centerpiece next offseason...that could be the major move to put them over the top.

I guarantee if we go back to that draft day everyone was disgusted by that pick

He might be the second best player in that whole draft

He had huge balls that could of blown up in his face for passing on Vilardi who I was 100% he was ours

But he proved all the Buffalo fans wrong

Hope you are right. He's young too, I'd welcome having long term stability in that role.

Couldn't keep it in his pants

Happy he's a slob

Now we can we a Championship here

- gerbe75pts

Hes been letting it " hang out of his pants" for 20 years around here. This didn't just start.

Odd coincidence that we just scored in both sports with the drafts.

Me too, movement may also play into his resignation

Bro... The team was just so terrible they weren't losing on purpose they were just that bad

The Good Karma from us not purposely tanking got us the first overall pick

Forgot about him. I think Masch meets the same criteria where he would have to reenter. Good find.

He didn't secure Dahlin, the lottery did that. And it's much easier to be last place than first place, change my mind lol.

I don’t think the PLAYERS were tanking this year nor 3 years ago.
The respective GMs didn’t field a competitive team.
Difference was this team was so putrid the GM didn’t need to make several in season moves to ensure a last place finish (coupled with heroics from Taves).

Haven't read this yet but this is from the Panthers blogger.
Looks like he wants Rhino

To Florida Panthers
Sam Reinhart

To Buffalo Sabres
Nick Bjugstad or MacKenzie Weegar
Adam Mascherin
3rd round pick in 2019 or Arizona's 2nd round pick in 2018 (with Weegar)

- jochfr

Nope. Reinhart is the best player in that deal and he's only getting better. Adam Mascherin is a ??? and years away from an NHL impact. 3rd and 2nd rounder we're good on. And, Weegar, is a 7th round bottom pair guy. Nick Bjugstad is okay, but Sam is better and has much more upside.

We need to add as much high-end talent as we can, we have enough role guys/low cost bodies already. Trading Reinhart for this is a step backwards.

not sure, at their age and draft status, they probably don't hold much value. Someone would definitely take a shot at nylander though.

I think his off season plan is

Package Nylander/picks for someone
Find a taker for Okposo
Free agent goalie or two
Free agent buy low bottom 6/bottom pair adds
Rochester adds

- Sabresfan-365

What makes u say that?
I think we are pretty deep with NHL defensemen right now

Dahlin, Ristolainen, Scandella, McCabe, Bogosian, Beaulieu, Nelson
That’s 7 right there, plus...
most likely Guhle, maybe Antipin, maybe Pilut
Falk & Fedun can come up from Rochester if there’s a bunch of injuries
Borgen also joining Rochester
Tennyson & Redmond also have NHL experience in a pinch

That’s 15 defensemen deep

So for me...
a top pairing guy might make sense,
but we already have plenty of 3rd pair guys
I think some guys would need to be moved out for that to even be a remote possibility

Remember when some of you guys were saying Nelson was getting 3 mil in free agency?

own the (frank) up

- Sabresfan-365

Who said that?!
Although, i did think he’d get 1.25-1.5
So for a 2yr deal at 800k,
great deal imo
I figured he’d get more bc of his UFA status
