Looks as if anything, Wilson is leaning "in" or "down" , as opposed to "up towards his head", and pens guy decided to brace for the hit as if he was sitting on a chair or something.. Unfortunate, but if there was no injury this would not be an issue...
- wilkobecks

This is the beginning of his upward trajectory that broke a jaw and had him end up landing/sitting on the boards.

The injury is a major issue here obviously. If he gets a suspension will you still think you're right? If the answer to this is yes, then just go back over to your board and discuss whether Karlsson will be a Sen in September or not some more. There's no point in further discussions with you around here.

Watching the non response from ZARs teammates and friends broke my heart. Hockey is almost dead folks. Congratulations.

...

And lack of accomplishments? They are some of the most decorated players in league history.

I think what really needs to happen here is you get a better command of the English language and NHL terminology.

Dragon software isn't perfect man. That's Capitals in six, not and six. They kind of sound a little bit similar don't they? Hope I didn't ruin your day.

Oleksiak tried to fight him. Blame the instigator penalty which should have never be implemented

Its poopty but its not his teammates fault. If Oleksiak would have grabbed him and ragdolled him he would have put the Pens shorthanded for 5 minutes and been kicked out of the game. Its a bastardization of the rules that protects cheap shot artists.

He jumps into every hit. Look at a replay of about every big hit he throws (when he isn't running a guy into the boards from behind), he end up flying through the air after.

On the ZAR hit he had to make a concerted effort to get around his shoulder to deliver the hit to the head.

Lets clear something up on the jumping too...

People commenting that he wasn't jumping because his toes were in contact with the ice at the time of contact... THAT IS EXACTLY THE POINT OF JUMPING!!!!!

If you want to really hurt someone, you don't want to be in mid air. You want to be at that exact point you leave the ice to get the most power as you drive through the hit.

It is a perfectly timed jump on his end. If you go flying through the air when you engage a hit on a guy 4" taller than you it is because you jumped.

Pens would be short handed for 2 minutes and gladly killed off the penalty. It’s so far past the point of caring about the W.

I disagree that we should level punishment at the player.

"He is never going to change. He does not care. Why should he? There are never any repercussions for his reckless behavior."

No level of repercussions from the DoPS will make up for the fact that most repeat offenders only have jobs because of their reckless behavior. That behavior needs to put them out of a job, and the only way to do that is to make it hurt the team enough that the team doesn't want it.

Make suspended players occupy a lineup spot. Force the team to play a man short for a week every time some plug throws a flying elbow to someone's face. Watch their teammates fatigue, their coaches bristle, and watch them either deal with the ire of their teammates and coaches or learn to be less reckless.

- StealthTomato

I agree with this bolded part...at this point after Wilson was allowed by the league to run amuck to the detriment of another team, the entire team (Wash) should be force to lose a spot on the bench, that suspended players spot. I think having this be the form of punishment for these types of hits might actually cause players who add nothing to the sport to be abolished from any team looking to win a cup.

Well Wilson has a hearing today with the DOPS. Let's see what happens. I am betting a fine.

Probably a fine to ZAR knowing the DoPS.

It's sad because in the end of the day this is what the League wants.
They could do lots of things to change players behavior but they dont change anything. If they were testing small changes to rule, fines and etc ok, but they aren't.

They are happy with the status quo. Wilson had to have 3 very questionable hits in 2 series to have a hearing.

Even if those hits are not intentional, even if he's always "playing with an edge, being a warrior, bla bla bla" he is constantly hurting people with head shots. It doesnt matter if the head is the "main point of contact". What matters is that the way he plays hurts people and that is not good for the league. Its something avoidable that they dont care to avoid.

t's easy to see that the head was hit, but the point should be that Wilson's hit was a typical hockey hit that ended badly. If at the last 2nd a player ducks down and Wilson was already following through with the hit, then there can't be any fault placed on Wilson....WTF is Wilson supposed to do? Pull a Matrix and slow down time to avoid the other player?

If slow mo instant replay has to be looked at a 1000 times to determine whether a hit is clean or not, than its not a fair assessment of something that happened in a split-second at full-speed.

It's amazing how often these concussions come from the result of clean Tom Wilson hits. Can't be he knows exactly how to get around the rules by glancing off the shoulder and making most of the contact with his head. Or how to time his leaps so his skates are barely off the ice when he hits yet ends up in his own bench.

Yeah, people fail to realize that clean hits shouldnt be hurting players every other game.

But lets assume they are all clean hits and he never has intent to hurt anyone (or laugh the rest of the period at people who are bleeding and hurt in front of him), the league should do something about it then, because if your game allows 'clean hits' that often hurt players, something is not right.

This isn't true. We have our homers like every other fan base, but plenty have called for our guys to get suspended. NHL needs to be A LOT more heavy handed with their punishments.

Regardless of the Wilson hit being dirty or not, doesn't change the fact that:

1. Kessell has been useless
2. Brassard is invisible
3. Maata made a terrible play
4. Murray sucks

All this crap is adversity championship teams battle through and use as motivation to do so... So... Let's see if this year's version of the Pens is a championship team. Because this year's version of Caps and Pens is the same with the crap on the ice. Every year they play each other the Caps injure Pens players in the second round.

How the hell did they let that trip on Maatta go? Wilson just goes up and slew foots him and the puck goes the other way.

NHL reffing is such a joke.

- madmike71

Looked real similar to the way Coots was taken down in game 6 of the Flyers series no when the Pens went up 6-4 I believe? Got to love that Karma thing.
