That's either a lie or you're not paying attention. He did great work in a second pair role in Chicago after being called up late in the year and continued to do so until the last game. Considering how he played both this year and two years ago, he looks like a very solid bet at a cheap, 3rd pairing guy that can play the point on the PP going forward.

Again nothing special. Shouldn't be hard to replace that kind of guy.

He's a 2012 pick as well. Not sure that the Oilers would've still had him even if they signed him.

It's definitely a team issue as well, but it's not like can't miss prospects are the ones busting or not developing.

I'm not too fond of our AHL club the past years and do think if guys like Nurse, Benning and Caggiula to name a few came through Bakersfield then people would be ecstatic that our farm team is doing something. Unfortunately we never had the depth to push these guys down. I think the disappointment is more from the lack of 2nd and 3rd round picks not being there as well. 14 and 15 we didn't have those picks. Those are hopefully the picks that should be in the AHL getting the development and should be your impact guys. But expecting a team who's always drafting first with no 2nd and 3rds, what can you really expect to develop?

Luckily we've signed some college guys. Unforutnately a lot are straight to the NHL

- Lahey

My expectations are more that the team keep more of it's picks- particularly those 2nd round picks they kept trading. As we only have one 2nd round pick to base our opinions off, we get a bit of a biased perspective in that Benson fits the mold of past management's 2nd round bets, but the rest of the rounds have shown a much better focus on picking value.

I did a break down recently and they're not all that far removed from Tampa since 2015 as far as percentage of conversion of picks into "positive arrow prospects".

I believe this has a good deal of value and certainly shouldn't be undersold.

He did so awesome he played 35 games this year in the NHL and 25 in the minors... so Lahey is right, he's Auvitu.

I'm kind of in a holding pattern. There was a time when Marincin, Lander, Gernat, Pitlick, Harti etc.. looked like a good cores of picks.

I'm again hearing a lot of good things about a lot of players, but it's time for some of these guys to actually step up. Benson scares me because I think just as he gets going his body will hurt him. Not against the pick though, although not sure how they pass on Debrincat

I think the Gustavsson I was thinking of might've been from 2 years ago. Everything is such a blur

The other (frank)ing problem is the fans of this team, (frank) me are people hypocritical.

Blast PC for playing prospects too early, then I hear stupid poop like Jones and Bear should be playing.

Khaira is the next victim. Had a great year so he should be slotted in the top 6. Had to quit listening to the radio on my way home.

That's the one we let walk and signed with the Hawks. He was elevated to a 2nd pairing roll and had limited success. But he's fringe like Auvitu, no point exaggerating his skill set to make the Oil look bad, they do just fine on their own.

Ideally, you'd be right but it seems like it has been that hard for past Oiler's management teams and, once you start adding the names together (Gustafsson, Rieder, Pitlick, Oesterle, etc), you start to see how losing those depth guys could've led to very different decisions in roster management. My problem has been pro-ranked evaluation of players' potential impact.

Let's say we still have all of those guys, maybe the team doesn't need to sign guys like Pouliot, Kassian and Russell to the deal they got. Maybe that difference in cap space affords the team more flexibility in keeping Eberle. Maybe keeping Eberle and those depth guys leaves the team better set up to play a faster and more fluid transition game. I'd like to think these problems are fixed but if you look back at last summer, the three players who had the highest GF% away from McDavid were Pitlick, Pouliot and Eberle: what are two of the Oilers' problems this year? Speed and scoring on the wings and scoring away from McDavid. The shortcomings in player evaluation are still there, if not quite as prevalent.

For clarity, I'm not trying to pass indefinitely negative judgement on Chiarelli and Co; I think they're an improvement on past management groups at the very least. I'm merely voicing my opinion that the mistakes of both current and past management has and seems to continue to negatively impact our team.

But at the same time we added Rattie, Davidson, Auvitu, Kassian, Caggiula, Benning etc.....

We had room for Eberle anyway we just thought we'd do something different to take that next step as Eberle clearly wasn't a guy PC liked. Unfortunately Strome and cap space didn't come through. Although I like Strome for depth, just wish it wasn't for Eberle.

If I weren't heading out for the day, I'd love to discuss further. To put my opinion simply, my issue is more that I see a lot of the same roots and issues at the core of the decision making processes. These problems seem like they've improved (Benning is a great example of such), but I'm not convinced that they aren't something worth having apprehension over.

One thing I know is last year at this time we were praising TM and PC and WPG wanted to gut their management and coaching.

It's amazing what happens when your goalie decides to show up for a season. Hopefully PC gives him a bit of help to make it easier.

Like my last posts mentions, one year can make a difference. It's not like PC is a complete moron. If he actual gets some NHL players this team should be a playoff team again

Granted a lot is going to ride on the health of Klef and Sekera.

Poor bastards. Lots thought they could lose in round 1, then they play well and they are cup contenders again. And then we are where we are today
