How you can watch your teammates and friends get hit like that and do nothing is beyond me.

Well at least ZAR won't have to worry about Wilson any more.

I wonder what ZAR could have done better in that contact............

Pens took the first game in Wash, Caps took the first game in Pitts. In 2009 it was 2-1 Caps after 3 games. So much hockey left. Might we see Sprong now?.... Probably not... probably Rowney.
- MattStrat

I was hoping to see Spong before an injury like this would force it. I'd like to a forward other than one on the Crosby line actually put the puck in the net for change. Sprong seems the most capable of anyone not currently on the roster, and even more so. Too bad he would be regulated to a role with other linemates where he might not even see the net.

Brassard was a waste of a trade deadline pickup. He's brought nothing to this team so far in terms of the playoff competitiveness he's known for. How much is the scrap value of Brass? Can we get enough for a case of beer for him in the off-season?

Murray is seemingly susceptible to any shot over 20' away. For a goalie his height to consistently get beat OVER his glove hand is bothersome to say the least. He may very well be near-sighted and needs to get his eyes re-checked. The reason we beat this team last season was because of MAF more than any individual skater. If they find a way to do it again this season, it WON'T be because of Murray. For a team looking towards a lengthy competitive future, they got rid of the right goalie, for a team trying to three-peat, they got rid of the wrong goalie.

Letang is more problem than he's worth and I'm sick of his act anymore. I was so hoping they would move him for a decent defenseman of size and with much more sound defensive skills and saved a lot of money to keep Cole or Bonino as well, but here we are proving the cup win without him last season was no fluke. They should put an albatross on his sweater instead of a Penguin.

This all seems like overreaction for a series they're only down 1 game in to me. Murray should of stopped that 3rd one, no doubt, but Malkin could of buried that post shot a minute before that would of made it 4-2. They let that one slip away last night. They let that Wilson hit throw off their game for about 5 mins and in those 5 mins the Caps tied it 2-2.

No one in that Pens dressing room is panicking. Last night wasn't must win.

He clearly asked for it. Maybe he shouldn't have looked so good to Wilson.

No, this is pretty much my reaction to their entire playoffs so far. If they win this series, it will probably still be my take unless any of those players can do anything to change that. Murray and Brassard have a shot to do that. Letang has been on my schit list for about 10 years now, so even if he has a hatty that isn't going to save him from my weak opinion of him as an over-rated forward who somehow gets over-paid to play defense.

Letang is a dirty little female dog - cute slash on Ovechkin after that winning goal by him should get him suspended (he already deserved a 3 game suspesion after the dirty hit on Couturier which was a crosscheck putting Couturier head first almost into goalpost).
- MaximusAurelius

Wilson will get a 5+ games suspension for leaving his feet on that hit.
- MaximusAurelius

I appreciate the consistency of calling out players on both sides. Doubt either gets that much, be shocked if Wilson gets more than a game.

NHL needs to change how seriously they take contact to the head. If they can look at that and say it was legal then they need stricter rules.

Hes blind siding players & hitting them with a dog shot. The 3 big hits so far have all had other players taking care of the player he eventually hits. Twice approaching from behind.

When does that start to be charging?? He's not hitting with hockey hits, he's hitting with intent to injure. I'm 1000% sure of that.

Serious question, how did you feel when Guentzel did the exact same thing to couturier that led to a goal in the clinching game against philly?
- wilkobecks

That was Letang I thought. NHL reffing sucks and I’m pretty used to that. Law of averages dictated that we got screwed this time. We’ve benefitted before. Oh well. I don’t expect anything more or less at this point.

Regardless, if that trip on Maatta was called that would have been a pretty huge bail out because that was an agregious initial turnover by Oli and I’m not sure him not getting tripped would have saved that goal. He’s pretty slow. Would have been nice to get the call but Maatta has to be better.

Another day another argument about a tom Wilson hit. I thought this one was way less egregious than the one he had on Dumo, it just happened to have a way worse result. It was high and deserved a penalty, but the initial contact was clearly high shoulder so I don’t think he was aiming for the head. He was going for a big hit in open ice and succeeded.

It's crazy that more people aren't female doging about this... Should have been a penalty that led directly to a game winning goal. I'm surprised the refs didn't huddle to call that a good clean check as well before going to the Washington bench to cup the Cap's collective nuts.

I think this one was worse than the Dumo hit, but it doesn't matter at this point. Pens need scoring from guys not named Sid and Jake. It's (frank)ing brutal out there.

The turnover is what I focus on. No chance maatta catches up on the back check even if he wasn’t tripped

shoulda went down the boards with it. There was no play in the slot where he threw the puck, not really sure what was going on there.

Not sure about that? Left shoulder came straight into his jaw which probably broke it. The jaw is 1 of the toughest bones in the body, so there was extreme force.

I asked before, when does this start being charging? Puck was away & Wilson wasn't going to let up no matter what, on All 3 hits so far - 2 from behind.

Wilson left his feet with enough force that he LANDED IN THE FRICKING BENCH! I don't know how it wasn't called charging either.

And from the other angle it looks like there’s only shoulder contact which is why I think it’s somewhere in between: a borderline hit that deserved a double minor due to blood but I think the argument that he was targeting the head is pretty suspect, unlike the Dumo hit which I’ve watch a million times and can’t find a way to argue that he was targeting anything but the head.

In regards to suspension, I think it's more about main point of contact, not initial or first contact, but I could be wrong.
