If they don't need the cap space to do something, why buy him out? - MJL
If they have better players (or players that they feel are better) ready to step in, it saves you both a roster and contract slot.
Personally, I'd rather they waive/demote him rather than buy him out as long as the contract slot is not an issue if this was the case. |

thing is they do. but i don't think your bringing up someone like Vorobeyv to play a 4th line center/spare forward role and only getting 7 minutes a game.
I am not totally sure Leier is back next year. Maybe they demote Weise or he asks to go overseas. They'll have space without having to have a dead cap hit for 2 seasons on a buyout. |

I don't know if I want to sign anyone on defense.

actually, I think I like this a bit more.

I know Hagg and Morin were a pair in LHV last year at times so one had to play right side.

I don't see a reason to keep Leier, or at least not to waive him. They gave him a shot and, as much as I liked his speed, he didn't offer much. He may get claimed, at which point the Flyers should just blow it all up, but I'd risk it.
And again, I'd rather just waive/demote players as opposed to buying them out, especially if they only have 1 year left. |

So, let's say the CBA ends in 2020. And let's say that they have another 48-game season for the 20/21 season, and the NHL allows one CBO per team. And let's say Montreal uses it on Shea Weber.
Shea Weber will be 35 at that point. Now, assuming the Flyers want a big, RH veteran like him, would you be interested? If so, what would you offer? Would you do 3 years at $5M? I understand cap space and team makeup could impact it, but just a little fun hypothetical. |

I think Leier is a RFA so they just don't have to offer a QO.
I would waive Weise or maybe they terminate his contract so he can go overseas?
Manning, Read and Oduya are already gone. Filppula I would let walk. Right there are 4 forward slots without touching Lehtara. |

I don't think Weise would agree to a termination. Now, if you demote him, he may just agree to fail to report.
I have no problem with keeping Leier, just that I think he's an AHL player at this point. |

No.
A that point I expect the Flyers to be contenders so they should have a solid back end at that point. |

I believe he would have to go on outright waivers to terminate if he wanted to go overseas.
The Phantoms already have some good vets and will get more prospects next year. just don't see room for someone like Leier anymore. |

I know there was a group of us that talked about Laughton on the wing a while back closer to when I joined. They sent him back to the AHL to learn how to be a shutdown center. I think he was fine there, but ultimately will be the most effective depending on who his linemates will be. I think they could put him at center and with 2 good wingers can make an okay line. If they are only going to keep him at 4C with whatever wingers are left, then he would be better off on the wing.
It is tough to say at this point, but the good part is that he is versatile and useful for them. |

That's why I would like to see Vex there. He's not much of a prospect, 25 or so. He's as good as he's going to get. I'd be fine if he plays 7-12 mins a night at 4C. |

Since Hagg will be gone, yes. Would prefer less than 3 years since it would be a 35+ contract though |

Not buying out Lehtera will not take away a chance for likely more capable players of earning a spot on the team.

No thanks. By that time the kids won't be kids anymore and the defense should be pretty well set. |

By my count they have 40 players signed but 4 of them can slide (Frost, Ratcliffe, Sushko and Strome). they have 8 RFAs (Hagg, Leier, Goulbourne, Lyon, Martel, Morin, Stolarz and Wilcox). not sure what happens to Fazleev's contract if he goes to the KHL. Assuming its a mutual termination?
Being Allison and Laczynski are going back to school and it doesn't appear they are signing Kase yet (or at all) they should be fine with the contract spots. |

Detroit or Montreal would be great destinations for Voracek. Both have the cap space. Both are looking to rebuild. Both first rounders would look great announced by Ron Hextall. |

if i'm Montreal i'd rather draft Zadina at 3rd overall and have him on an ELC for at least the next 3 years
Detroit desperately needs defense but that whole roster is ugly. Still, can't really see them having a ton of interest in another vet signed to a long term, big money contract. |
