Getting that kind of commitment out of a kid is what justifies a top 10 pick for them. Or you can get Jake "Hamburgler" Virtanen. Problem is there is no warranty on the pick.

The safe pick is Wahlstrom. Pretty much guaranteed to play in the NHL and produce.

The high risk pick is Hughes. Probably the best skater in the draft but...dare I say size.

Size? He's 18 and broke 170 already. He has plenty of comparibles size wise when it comes to where some of today's NHLrs were when they were 18. He's never going to break 185. 180 sounds right.

EP has Hughes at 174. I know he's only 5'10" but that is not what I call too short for the NHL at all even if this 18yo doesn't grow much, he'll get close to 6'... probably. I'm thinking 5'11" 180 pounds is what we can expect reasonably. That's a lot of speed and skill in smaller but reasonable sized player later on in his 20's. I certainly don't feel it's a limiting size or forwards of that size probably wouldn't have as big a role as they do today.

Somehow people think he's 5'6" 155 or something. At this age... one year old stats can be thrown out with Eklunds rumours. Kid has been playing against college age young men for an entire season... not in junior like Bouchard.

Edit: wrong player whoops... I thought Hughes.

I think Detroit who gets to see a lot of his elite skills, needs a D like that, and considers him a local boy is drooling for him.

You mean the leagues the some of todays greats like Crosby and McDavid and Doughty played in.
Have yet too see any of the greats come out of college ranks yet...albeit they have been providing many more decent nhlers.

Who the hell is comparing skill in the two leagues?

Funny. I'm talking about a smaller player in a league with young mature men who play physical as well compared to junior. The discussion is about "will his size limit him playing against men". lolololol... you'll catch on soon.

I think Dobson is more likely to become a top pairing than Bouchard simply because the skating/positional play is already there. If Bouchard can improve those two he can be a legit #1 dman due to his offensive potential, but if he doesn't improve those he will top out as second pairing. I think for this reason Dobson goes either 5th or 6th.

My thoughts exactly. He could also blow up like Chabot did in Ottawa his draft plus 1 season and we could see dobson really rack up the points next year.

I think the real question is what Ottawa does.

I think the first 3 are set.

Ottawa? Tkachuk, Hughes, Boqvist, Bouchard.. they have chabot at LHD so maybe lean Boqvist or Bouchard with Karlson perhaps moving on.

Arizona will go RHD as they have none and will look to find future partners for OEL, chychrun and the other decent LHD prospects they have.

Detroit has said they are drafting defense.

Canucks need defense.

Chicago needs everything.

NYR need defense and wingers.

Picks 3-9 are almost interchangeable.

Arizona is moneypuck, I doubt they draft for need, they'll just go BPA. Agreed on the rest, although Montreal might do something crazy and pass on Zadina for a C.

If we get Spezza/pick for a song & a dance.

Sven Bo BB
EP ? Goldy
Leipsic AG JV
Gaunce Sutter LE
Granlund Gagner

Am i missing anyone?

- Nighthawk

I agree that's what we're looking at right now (minus Spezza).
But that lineup is seriously lacking in muscle

Good news is that we'd get a look at a lot of the Utica comets on the team with all the injuries.
