Here's how I feel about his foot speed. Its average at best in Junior 5 on 5. That is one thing that could keep him from being a top 2 D man. If he is below average foot speed in the NHL... do you give him 25 minutes a night? No.
Whats more likely to be taught to a 18 yo prospect? The defensive side of the game for an intelligent skilled fast d or skating for a large offensive skilled D lacking it?
I understand his skating is debatable, but skating is the bigger hurdle. There's not much argument to that fact. That is where I stand. - boonerbuck
I agree, teaching defense is easier, skating issues are a commitment by the individual, moreso than a teaching method.
Many times have these puckwatchers never overcome the habit and many with skating issues never committed to getting better at skating...so (frank) it, take the safe pick in Dobson.

Thats a good take. Its up to the Habs. Do they go BPA with Zadina or Wahlstrom for upside & possibly play C or go for D? I don’t see them reaching for D. Sens pick D probably. Boqvist my guess.Means Tkachuk Wahlstrom goes 7 or later. 1 other D is left out of Boqvist Dobson Hughes Bouchard.
We choose Wahlstrom Tkachuk Bouchard? - Nighthawk
Don't you see Montreal going BFA(best frankaphone available)? Does bouchard speak French?
is dropping 4-6 mil in cap space worth dropping 3-4 spots in the draft? - onesmallleap
I did not read him suggesting MTL drops. teams will give up a 2nd though to drop 6 or so mil cap space. Detroit dropped 4 spots and gave a 2nd to dump 7m in space.

I think Dobson is more likely to become a top pairing than Bouchard simply because the skating/positional play is already there. If Bouchard can improve those two he can be a legit #1 dman due to his offensive potential, but if he doesn't improve those he will top out as second pairing. I think for this reason Dobson goes either 5th or 6th.
Ask Bo about the challenge to improve your skating.... - Bullfrog77
Getting that kind of commitment out of a kid is what justifies a top 10 pick for them. Or you can get Jake "Hamburgler" Virtanen. Problem is there is no warranty on the pick.
