Francis was trying to do what Chevy has done in Winnipeg, except more defense-heavy. Being too patient probably cost him his job, but he's left the next GM in a pretty good spot, especially if the new owner is willing to spend to the cap every year.

I think Dundeon or whatever his name is, is just that much of an idiot. I think the article said 8 potential GM candidates have declined interviews already.

Missing out on the number one pick sucks, but in the long run it may be a blessing. Those guys who have a reputation for being ultra-elite tend to be disproportionately overpaid. Canucks might still get a very productive player at 7, but likely won't be paying him outrageous dollars that would skew their team payroll and prevent them from having enough cap space to fill out the roster with other better quality players.
