Why are we trading Klefbom ?
- Reveen.

Klefbom
Nurse
Sekera
Russell

too many LHD. If they could move Klefbom for a similar RHD, that'd help. It'd be a lateral move though.

Plus I mean he's on a great contract, but he's never realized his potential. Plus it doesn't help he's always injured.

Ok so (frank)ed off from elementary school but won't (frank) off from here?
- leonkennedy

I'm surprised I passed elementary school God I was a (frank)ing idiot And before you say I still am, think about this.

I didn't pay attention in class, my grades were never good, and I once had a meeting with some lady to help with my handwriting. It was awful.

Still is.

You still don't pay attention. You have been told to (frank) off over 1000 times and you still don't listen.

He's a bandaid and isn't really all that good at playing the defense
- leonkennedy

He is a bandaid... but he's on a good contract and like it or not is one of our best if not best d-man.

Eh. Pros and cons honestly.

Yes, he's on a great contract and great term.

But Edmonton has a lot of LHD and Klefbom has the most value. Plus he's injured a lot of the time.

Lateral move, but the contract tips it towards keeping him.

Oh I know that. I'm not advocating for moving him just that if the opportunity came up to get someone better then do it. I liked Nurses game last year far better than Klefbombs though.

In Iggys defense with his dementia and senility he probably doesn't remember that ever happening once.

Apparently, I was the star soccer player.

I mean even though my school had about 100 people and only 13 kids in my grade.

He’s absolutely our best dman.

I mean that’s said with the knowledge we have a pretty awful defence, but it’s still true

With a healthy/bounce back from sekera, and same from Oscar, it’s a serviceable group prob middle of the pack.
Otherwise, it’s bottom 3rd, probably worse.

That said “bounce back” from Klefbom and he’s absolutely better 5v5 than risto. Sh1t, he’s as good without it.
He’s A better puck mover and far better defensively.
But risto is right handed and far better on the pp.

I take the former over the latter.

Where we've gotta start is that I agree with you; it's not nearly enough. No matter how much one wants to believe Risto's faults negatively impact his value, it's not to the extent that you could downgrade it that much. Again, won't have the stats more in depth till I'm home which won't be for a few days. While you're here, what are your thoughts on something built around Klefbom for Ristolainen?
- MaximumBone

Absolutely not.

Why would the sabres get older? The only way Risto is leaving is for RNH or Draisaitl (obviously not happening). Risto just hit the lottery. He either got a d partner who will bail him out for the next 10 years, or he'll move to the second pair. The sabres aren't going to give that away, and yes, klefbom would be giving him away

Edit, only a year, but still. also the sabres have a gluten of LHD: Guhle, Dahlin, McCabe. Risto is the only good rhd we have

Arguing who’s better (by all advanced 5v5 numbers Oscar crushes him) is totally fair. And there’s some things like run a pp that risto does better. I also think Ristos ceiling is higher.

Which would make it understandable if someone felt long term risto is the guy they’d like despite not being the better hockey player right now.

But yeah, to the bolded> massive eye roll

In his career overall, yes Klefbom beats him. This past year, Klefbom had a rough go as far as raw-GF% with Larsson and Russell and has seen his numbers take a hit. I have proposed and maintain this was as a result of McLellan's ill-advised transition from a box protection system to more of a man-to-man defense and the fallout of such, but that's another post.

Agreed on the eye roll.

Seems like a bad idea to aquire Klef for anything substantial before he can prove he can put some of his major injuries behind him.

He'll probably have a better season next year, but it's still bad asset management to pay for a potential lemon.

I maintain that Larsson is currently our best Dman. Being able to rely on him bringing what he has before is the big swing for me. The rest have questions surrounding them.

You can maintain that...but you’re still wrong

Even with his down year Klef was and is our best overall.

And he’s better than Risto in most aspects of the game.

Agreed. Unless your team is desperate for cap savings with a reasonably high ceiling of payoff (maybe Nashville with Ellis next year), then it wouldn't make sense. Nor does it make much sense for Edmonton to drop him at his lowest point of value.

Not totally unreasonable.
I mean he’s proven beyond a doubt when he healthy he can be an effective top pairing guy.

for all of Larssons deficiencies, they played off each other well and allowed them to each concentrate on their strengths. (Larsson defensive conscience and Klefbom roaming/moving the puck to put it simply) and it’s no coincidence both had mediocre years this season as things didn’t go smoothly (injuries- played away from each other etc)

By all accounts surgery was succesfull, but yes, if you mean this seasons shoulder injury may give someone pause- that’s fair.
