Per Hextall, Mrazek, Read and Manning will not be back. there is some interest in Filppula but it won't be a pre july decision which is GM talk for if we don't have a better option we may look to bring him back in my opinion |

Hextall said all assistants will be back. May evaluate some roles but all be back.

Kind of predictable.
He ties his fate to them more by doing so.

And here comes Hextall with the GM speak portion of the day.
I have to actually go do some work, so I'll leave it up to one of you to summarize
- BiggE
I'm hoping they post both on the website to view later to digest better |

Yup, he's pretty much saying: "if I can't find anyone better and Filps available in mid July and willing to sign a one year deal for a lot less than 5 million, than yeah, he might be back.

That's fairly good news.
If they already knew Manning wasn't coming back the way he was used ahead of Hagg and Sanheim down the stretch looks even worse. |

The PK thing is for sure going to draw some heat, and talk.
Its been the same passive box for years.
I do count it as a mistake by Hex. He might believe in Lappy overall, but the results speak for themselves over the last few years.
Far too much loyalty to the man instead of the results.
Weird. |

You hit the nail on the head! I was pissed when Hexy signed Elliott and decided to keep Neuvirth. Both had sketchy injury history and with Stolarz having major surgery that is too much of an unknown. Elliott played OK when healthy but didn't exactly set the world on fire either. Neuvy is usually good when healthy, but that is such a rare occurrence it can't be counted on. They need to do something to shore up that position, because even if Hart is the next Patrick Roy, he's still not going to suit up for the Flyers for at least another season or two. So the team is supposed to get average to below average netminding for the next two years because Hexy doesn't want to give up a first round pick (if it even requires that)? Doesn't make much sense to me! - aantny88
The idea is to build a team that can contend for a large open window. Trading a 1st round pick for now so the team can win a round or two, is what doesn't make any sense. Their defense is not going to be ready to contend for at least a couple of seasons so why trade a 1st round pick for a stop gap goalie?

If they want to resign Simmonds ad the 3rd line RW, who is no longer on the top PP it got to be no more than 4 years at 5mil tops. And they have to, HAVE TO, start filitering in kids from the Phantoms. No more signing bottom six FAs to multi-year deals. No more taking bad contracts back in trades.
I'm personally not in favor of signing Simmonds long term but if they're going to do it then that's what it has to be. - hereticpride
Simmonds when healthy should go right back to his spot on the first PP. |

My quote option isn’t working again on my iPhone, but I’m in total agreement w BiggE’s contract proposal for Simmons. A little more money per year (6 mil )but 4 years is fair. I think Simmonds would take a small home team discount to remain a Flyer, and the intangibles he brings on and off the ice make him worth it. One poster mentioned “security” of alonger term deal. I don’t see how banking another 24-25 million dollars isn’t “security”. Besides, even w a longer term, if his skills diminish significantly, how many minutes per game would he be playing? Again, BiggE got it right, get it done. - Hokeeguy9
Contract are usually give and take. If Simmonds is going to take a hometown discount in terms of salary then I doubt he will do that for a 4 year deal. Usually they'll take a lower salary for more security in terms of years. |

It is what it is. We dont have control over it at the end of the day.
When you have fans of other teams happy he will be back, it's a small sign. Flyers think they know best, hopefully thats true. |

Center and D are the areas where he sees most need for improvement. The Flyers may be willing to move up in the draft but they also would like to continue building depth from a good draft. He said if we go young on D, so be it. We have a year more experience now amount the young guys on D. |

Good to hear. Would love to see Morin and the other kids in there full time but figure with Gudas around they will play the healthy scratch game. |

Hextall on Hak: With all due rspect to our fans, and they are a minority, I know a lot more about our coaches than they do. Our coaches know more about our players than they do. I can't react to [fan sentiment]. That said, we all need to get better, myself included

give provorov and coots the A.
not thrilled with elliot/neuvirth tandem next year. not confident they will remain healthy. hoping they move one, bring up stolarz, who i think is the better of the two ahlers, and let hart be a workhorse.
dump as much deadwood as possible, utilize our own assets, and maybe add a piece or two at most in FA. despite hextall's "free rein" in FA, i don't see him doing much...maybe now that he's got space he will. i don't want any more weises, filpulas, lehteras (yes, i know he got us frost), gordons and the like. enough. (frank)ing enough.
glad nobody is going to the world's. rest, heal, train.
(frank)ing (frank).

yeah, great. the PK has sucked for 4 years. under 1 person. bringing him back in this role is dumb.

I do believe the GM knows more about the coach than us and the coach more about the players in general, HOWEVER, that does not mean they are always right. |
