cracks me up when fans try to predict what Hex wants to do or not do. Bottom line, if it is a good hockey trade, he will do it. If it is a good contract he will offer and sign it. - wcorvette
To a degree. Hextall might be able to trade a player like Sanhiem for an older more established player that would make the team better now, which would be a good hockey trade. I don't beleive he will make a move like that. I also don't think he will go on a free agent spending spree even if he think s it's a fair contract. I think some moves ill be made, but a lot of fans are trying to talk themselves into believing that Hextall is going to change. He is not in my opinion.

How is Decamera still on the air? I figured he would've had a stroke when the Sixers made the playoffs. - hereticpride
Haha. I will say I actually am entertained by Decamera and Ritchie. Not sure if Decamera is genuniely so out of touch with the world outside of sports or its an act, but it makes for good entertainment. Mike and Ike was a snoozefest, and Ike in general is awful. He can't give good analysis of anything outside of decent perspective on football, and he's not entertaining. Don't know how people can listen to him on any regular basis. |

Gotta love those irrational Flyers fans. Want Hexy fired because we have too many scrubs on the team, yet also want coaches fired because we are not winning the cup or ranked first in PK..... |

In other news, Vegas, holy sh!t!!!
I keep waiting for them to come back to earth, at least a little, but JFC, they may just win the Cup!

Coming back to earth would suggest they were ever bad or average but yeah, I'm with you. |

I haven't listened to WIP for nearly 20 years, it still amazes that anyone does.

Defense needs an identity, they have most parts with Provy, Ghost, Hagg, SanHeim and AMAC. In my opinion the really missed someone like Morin. He is big and mean and will make other teams at least take notice when he is out there. Not to mention with Sanheim and Morin you finally have 2 D with reach. I am looking forward to next season being a healthy one for Morin - wcorvette
From Hextalls interview it sounds like he wants to add a veteran dman. |
|
|
|
So what is it? The Flyers lack personnel, or Laperriere isn't getting the job done with the PK? Sounds like a chicken and egg scenario. How many years into Hextall's rebuild will the personnel be there for an effective PK? 6? 8? 10?
When does Laperriere have to show some improvement before losing his job?
It's more of the same crap. |

I'd be really happy if they added a better veteran Dman. I would love to see if they could package Gudas with some combo of picks/prospects and a quality, top 4 guy, better than AMac, to slide into the top pair with Provorov. I think they have all the pieces needed to fill the 3-7 spots in the D group, it's finding a good #2 that would really give them a boost.

Its probably been that long for me as well. I stopped listening to 97.5 about 3 years ago for the same reasons. Except for when they broadcast Flyers games.
Too often they confuse idiotic for passionate.

I believe it's a combo of coaching and personnel, not one or the other. I'm pretty sure, as MB pointed out, that Lappy isn't telling guys, "hey when you get the puck on your stick instead of clearing it out of the zone, just flub it weakly to an opponent"
Nor is Lappy going to make timely, quality saves that is the backbone of any good PK.
OTOH, a different voice is needed and as I stated before, I'd rather see a guy like Knoblauch just oversee all special teams in 18-19. |

Yup. When it comes to local radio, the only time I really listen is when Flyers, Phillies or Eagles games are on when I'm driving. Other than that it's either satellite radio or a cd.

good hockey trade would prohibit trading Sanheim unless it was an amazing deal. Same thing goes with signing free agents, need and Cap hit. If he could add a goalie, D and 3C for the right price, he would. The reality is that will not happen

I doubt he is saying that either. |

I really think Sanheim is going to be that player in the future. Maybe not this year, but the year after. So if the cost is too high, I would not do that.

True enough but we have no idea if he's up in their grill after the game with a replay going WTF!?! were you thinking? The PK, and shootouts can be addressed during practice (which during the season they don't get much of but man I'm tired of watching crap efforts...) |

I disagree. If you could trade Sanheim for a better player than he is, how is it not a good hockey trade? Hextall has always maintained that if he can improve the team without hurting the future, he would do so.

There was/are 4 good QBs in this draft class. They could have overhauled their offense with a promising running back (Barkley) at #1 and one of those QBs at #4. Allen, Mayfield, Darnold, and Rosen...is there really 1 player that is a cut above the rest out of those 4? Take whichever one you want at #4.
But they go Mayfield and a CB reach - Giroux_Is_God
So they didn't think Wentz or Watson were franchise QB's and they went with Mayfield

Very true and I'm with ya, just think that their PK can only improve so much no matter who is coaching it until they upgrade the PK personnel and the goaltending.

He may or not be. But I think the bigger problem is, "who am I going to put out there instead?"
Does he beat the crap out of Giroux and Couturier?

depends-
how old is that player, what is the cap hit and the remaining term on their contract. If that all fits the long term plan or makes them a contender now then yes, do it.
I think we are saying the same thing

It always depends on the cost, that goes without saying. Sanheim may well be that guy, but Dmen often don't reach their full potential until their mid 20s and I really don't want to wait 2 or 3 seasons to have another top pair guy. Go get a guy if the cost isn't too prohibitive and if Sanheim ends up being a top pair guy one day, or Myers or anyone else does, even better. There is nothing wrong with having 3 or 4 guys that can play on a top pair.
