Too bad Anderson had a rough game. A few of those goals really should have been saved. It's a shame b/c he was main reason why Leafs made it to game 7. A couple of timely saves in 3rd pd. and game would have been much different.

That's hockey

Yep. People ready to lynch him... he was the MVP for this team all year. Struggled mightily last night but it happens. Crawford, Quick, Rask, Lundqvist, Price, Fleury, Murray etc... all these goaltenders have struggled in playoff games too. At the same time they’ve carried their teams through playoff games. And to the people suggesting the leafs trade Matthews..... did making the playoffs for two straight years do something to your brain? The leafs have their best player since Sundin struggle for one round at 20!!!! And you want him gone... shake your (frank)ing head

Man... the Leafs are so close, but so far away...

I have to assume Matthews is injured. He is better than he played as he was mostly invisible. He was skating like a 40 year old, not a 20 year old.

Anderson was bad, but you can't really blame things on him. He was the only reason they made it to game 7... looked like he was just gassed.

Toronto was just soooo soft in that game. I think Polak, Hyman, Marleau and Kadri were the only guys who didn't straight up run away from contact. How many times did Nylander have a chance to beat a player to the puck and instead of risk getting hit, he let the defenceman take the puck uncontested and clear the zone.

The Leafs need a true top D man badly. I'd be offering up Nylander and Gardiner for Karlsson or Doughty on a sign and trade. Way too many cutesy players on the team.

- MacPatty

They need a line that can cycle and score. Bozak/JVR's line should be that, wily vets and all, but they've always been soft.

That was really the difference that the series came down to: BOS has a core of quality veterans, we don't, not yet. Not knocking Kadri, Marleau and Hainsey, but they're not on the same level as Bergeron, Marchand and Chara.

Still when you think of it, our core is so young, we can't really get down on ourselves. It's a miracle we made it to game 7 considering how badly things went from the get-go and how nothing seemed to be going right all at once.

I can't believe some people are calling for Matthews head ALREADY??? Trade Matthews, you've waited since Sundin in his prime for a #1 center, you're gifted one via the draft lotto and two years later you wanna get rid of him....WTF man.

He's 20 year's old, he's a great young player, one of the top 10 centers overall in the league. You guys are unbelieveable, really!!!

The Leafs major players are all so young and there's a lot of time to win with them, have some patience and let the team come together once they address the defense.

Flagged.

They're getting Tavares & we are ALL going to enjoy it & get along!

I don’t think Bozak was too bad. Just saddled with JVR.

Andersen was bad on 3 of the 6 goals he allowed, Gardiner was on the ice for 5 goals against.. It's easy to blame it on them, but a lot of our players didn't show up last night.. It was hard to notice Brown, JvR, Bozak and Johnsson.. We had a chance to put them away and we couldn't do it.

We played well for 40 minutes and then Boston showed everyone why they are the better team. It was a fun series though.

With that said, good luck against Tampa.

It's really a shame because that Kapanen goal could have gone down as one of the greats.

Now it's lost in another upsetting 3rd period breakdown.

The Leafs are much better than some of you seem to think, but I understand where you're coming from after a game 7 loss.

Leafs are a work in progress and only the defence needs 1 or 2 upgrades, imo.

Sucks I was really hoping to see more playoff games this year

I see lots of blame going around, but Boston is not a pushover. Probably the toughest matchup for the Leafs and why I hoped they got TB instead. Would have been nice for the Leafs to be rewarded for a good reg season with a tad easier 1st round matchup..but whatever

On to the Jays and Marlies and I can pretend I like Basketball while the Raptors are in still playing

Exactly. a vet line is a line you should be able to throw out in all situations. Plec and Marleau were perfect for Marner to work with.

Would be nice if our long-time vets JVR and Bozak could offer the same assurances as our free agent pickups, but we know that's not the case. Both will be gone next year; Komarov probably too.

I actually thought Polak was great. Delivered some bone crunching hits and did his job well... for what we are paying him he was awesome
- Hockey_Reverend

I don't disagree with you, Polak is a warrior and shows it come playoff time.

I felt that too often he couldn't make a pass to get out of the zone, kept throwing it up the boards where Boston would cut it off, same with Gardiner - actually pretty much the entire d corps.

Someone mentioned it above but the real absence of sustained offensive zone pressure and a good cycle game really hurt this team.

Pretty much it.

the D that needs to be replaced in order

Polak
Hainsey
Zaitsev (mainly his contract is the issue now, he is just average)

And Id be fine with trading Gardiner so I dont have to listen to the whining anymore.
