Hey guys - do you think Tanev would have helped the Leafs D? He could have been had for a 2nd and maybe a C prospect.....
- Fisticus

(frank) your leftovers. He would have been as useless as Plekanec was for 95% of his tenure.

He had a bad 7 games. He’s 20. He’s one of the best goal scorers in the league. He will be better next playoffs.
- ClarksonDavid

That's what depth is for.
There will be times Willy and Marner will struggle to put up points and Matthews/Tavares/Kadri will be there to pick up the slack.

The Bruins were the better team. This series probably should’ve been finished a couple nights ago, but really cool to see the youngsters step up and toss up a 7 spot in a game 7. Fun game for sure, Leafs we’re just in over their heads.

Yeah. I think the injury excuse is just that, an excuse. I think he just got outplayed by Bergeron and Chara and whoever else he had to face. Boston focused on shutting him down and it worked.
Hopefully he'll learn from this and figure out how to score despite facing such difficulties in future playoffs.

I think a few people were mentioning Kucherov being invisible for his first few years in the playoffs. It takes time I guess.

Quite sure Matthews will need shoulder surgery.
Will probably be out for 4-6 months.
(more reason to sign Tavares! )

Yeah the fact leafs pushed bruins to 7 with Matthews and Nylander being non existent is surprising

Its not irrational hate. Its the opposite of Tanner pumping his statistical tires...

His turnovers will be easily replaced. I would suggest that promoting Borgman and moving Dermott up would be an adequate replacement. Can't "wait for Gardiner" to develop... he's too old for the core - and he sure as heck isn't going to level his game out now.

- BorjeFan4Ever

Nobody in the NHL completed more stretch passes than Jake Gardiner. If you look at his giveaway totals and his passing totals, he's more accurate than most NFL quarterbacks.

Fact remains, it's really easy to see the negative part of his play but replacing the positive part of his game is going to be really, really hard. Rielly makes almost, if not more mistakes as Gardiner and fans give him a free pass.

Play Zaitsev with a d-partner who has half a brain, and he'll be fine.
Tough needing to think d for 2.

- MaximusAurelius

I think Zaits will be better without Gardiner too. Gardiner seems to always make his partner look bad. I don't know how, but he does.

And says a lot about the depth of this team. If Matthews showed up, he could have swayed this series, in my opinion, he can be that good.

great series. Was very nervous about todays game. Leafs were strong. I thought, especially after first two games, this was gonna be a pushover. Might be the best matchup in the whole east when its all over.
- 77emac77

Thanks. Boston played a good game. It was a good series and I'm glad the Leafs at least took you guys to game 7. Good luck in the rest of the playoffs.

Or he had bad playoffs. Why does everyone assume he’s hurt? He just wasn’t good.

Funny cause it's true. We need guys that can play defense. Gardiner can't. At this point of his career, he is what he is.

Absolutely agree.

Gardiner was horrible, but Andersen poop the bed on a few goals also.

Our superstar might has well have gone to Az for an early vacation before the series started. He contributed nothing.

- Aetherial

I'm hoping he has a shoulder injury.

But let's remember, he went head to head with the best shutdown center in the league at 20 years old. That's not a battle you can expect a 20 year old to win.

I'm also hoping the negativity towards his lack of points is a source a motivation and not a source of "I want out of this market".

Matthews needs more help too. Bergeron has two elite wingers with him. Matthews has two third liners. Reality is, Hyman is not a 1st liner and Brown probably isn't either. They need to bring in at least one legit 1st line winger to play with Matthews. It's a must have. He can't do it by himself in the playoffs.

You're the one always talking about playing the right way. Maybe do make 80 foot passes out of your zone when you're in the 3rd period of game 7.

well the rational UG just left... the argumentative Spatso-like useless factoid spewing UG is back.

yup - Rielly - who plays against the top lines every night almost every shift and generally isn't a wimp who throws it up the boards anytime anyone gets within 3 feet of him.. .makes more mistakes.

and how many icings and turnovers does JG create with the passes on which he misses? (its a rhetorical question - please don't answer).

but please - for the love god - don't start defending Gardiner. We all watch the games just like you do. We all see him for what he is. An no - Tanner is not correct - he is not the next coming of Bobby Orr.

with his 1 goal you mean?

Nylander has been way worse than Matthews - at least Matthews was responsible on the defensive side.

That DeBrusk game was partly fault by Nylander making a really weak play in offensive zone.

- MaximusAurelius

Nylander away from Matthews for 2 games had more points than Matthews in the whole series.

He was not particularly defensively responsible. He was not more defensively responsible than any other Leafs forward.

Or maybe Zaitsev is making Gardiner look bad. Zaitsev was out to lunch more than once this series.
