No superstitions, but I haven't missed a second of DET playoff hockey the last 2 seasons now.

Anybody else have superstitions?

Pre game rituals, in game habits, certain beers/liquor, special hats/jerseys before each game in the playoffs?

- Thorny87

Oh god...not even sure where to start...

- dont talk about game or series outcomes
- always back into my parking spot at my office during playoffs
- always start with right side when putting gear on at hockey before Pens games
such as tonight
- always drive exact same route to play hockey
- put Crosby away jersey on recliner in living room if they're playing on road
- put Malkins home jersey on couch behind me when they're at home
- cant watch the games with anyone, when I do they lose. No one that would watch
with me is a Pens fan anyway...so ....stay away and dont bother to ask..
- When my 20 month old son is with me for the night (have shared custody
50/50) and theres a Pens game on he has to wear penguins attire to beddy bys.
- my cats not allowed to hang with my while game is on...they can be in same
room just not on same couch and certainly not on me. When Pens score they
usually leave the room anyways.

There's more I cant think of right now....

Injury update from TIOPS:

The thought is Hagelin is going to miss the whole series, or at least that's the mindset of the team right now.

Malkin's injury would be keeping him out for 3-4 weeks during the regular season, but he's intent on returning between games 2-4 and clearly won't be 100%.

Team doctor's believe he won't risk long-term injury if he were to play, so that's a plus.

If thats the case, its possibly the same as what Cout had, minor MLC sprain/tear (I forget which) that you can play through the pain, not be 100%, and the only thing you can do is tear it more and then maybe require the surgery in the offseason. Which of course, isn't a big deal since its the offseason.

Alright time to throw out a series prediction:
Pens in 7

As far as game prediction, I'm sensing an OT game tonight. Rust with GWG. Pens somehow persevere.

So if this series gets chippy, which it will, would it make sense to sub Pedan in for Ruhwedal? Yes he shoots left but JO plays better on his off side. Pedan had a very strong season defensively in WBS, with the exception of a couple of suspensions. If the caps and Wilson want to run around like idiots trying to injure our players this would be a good deterrent to have 2 giant guys who like to smash people. Ruhwedal has not been spectacular so replacing him is not a big deal. This is a good course especially if Boston somehow finds a way to beat Tampa. The Pens do not play well when they play scared. Having Pedan in instead of Ruhwedal assures mutually assured destruction against any team. Just a thought, I’m tired of seeing teams trying to win by taking liberties on this team. Pedan can play well enough that he won’t get Reaves minutes but he can do Reaves job and still be a hockey player.

Every single player in NHL history has, at least at some point, made a dirty play. I actually don't think that Crosby is especially dirty, as I find Malkin and Letang to be much dirtier players.

Does Giroux made a dirty play from time to time? Absolutely. Does he go out of his way to try to severely injure people? No. Same applies to Crosby.

- jmatchett383

Giroux ran away from Kessel after a blatant charge and grimey dirty hit. Giroux is a little b!tch for that alone. Maybe if Phil had a policeman’s uniform Giroux would have at least thought he had a chance of grabbing a hand full of man a$$.

Ultimately every person is different. Pressure is going to effect every person differently. Some thrive in it, some are hurt by it and some are not phased good or bad by it... I just cant get behind saying its nothing and that no one feels it in the NHL.

I cant help but think about how someone like Ray Bourque felt in that final season and run with the Avs. He must of felt a lot of pressure there to finally hoist that cup knowing that if he didnt get it that year he never would in his life. His life long dream since he was a little boy would never come to fruition.

Depression is an inherent guality that can manifest in a multitude of scenarios. It is a genetic quality that is passed down from generation to generation. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain and does not need to the inflicted to necessarily go through bad times for it to infect them. Sometimes it is most prevalent when the inflicted is having some of the best success’ of their lives. Untreated it can be as debilitating as a physical affliction.
