Andersen MVP
(for the Bruins) - MaximusAurelius
I took a lot of abuse on this site when I said in February /March my biggest concern was that Anderson was not a "money" goaltender.
He is an average number 1 goalie in my view, and in this series below average except for one period in game 3.
We needed a big save on one of those 2 on 1s and we didn't get it. His body position was not great on either. The first goal cannot go in either.
We need to acquire someone who can push him, or give Sparks another chance next year. |

We didn't play well enough to win...regardless of Freddie...1st one sucked, the other 2 he was hung out. |

Chara factor...and nobody is trying to get under his skin makes it way too easy for him to play 1/2 the game. - Garnie
Why? That's just playing right into Bostons hands. We tried the "Bang up every Bruin You See" approach in the first two games and we were 20x worse than the last two games.
The team lacks agression, I guess, but I could hardly give two (frank)s. We're not losing because we're smaller. The dress Martin campaign is grotesque. We're losing because our compete isn't high enough. |

Nylander and Matthews were expected to dominate in this series. To me, that's where the Leafs are failing. - Symba007
Pretty sure Matthews is injured.
Nylander has looked more than underwhelming thus far. |

Since Leafs traded for Andersen, I have been saying he is a just an average nhl goalie.
Some people in here seem to think he is Hasek v2.0 though |

It wasn't a terrible pinch. It was a poor result. The puck was bouncing. The Leafs were pressing and a tired Boston group on the. They wanted to press the opportunity. I would be pretty sure the coaching staff would have agreed with that pinch.
We've become so conditioned to Gardiner doing stupid things that a bad result can reflect on him poorly. He played a good game. I don't blame him for that decision. Lots of very successful NHL teams give up 2 on 1s against, but their defense have a clue as to how to take away the pass.
Frankly, I don't think the Leafs are a team built to sit back - they don't have the defense for it, they don't hem, they don't have strong board presence, and they don't get away with the crap that established defenseman can, so they simply don't force turnovers that well. They win through offense, so they will have to take these gambles until they can round out their back end. - Monkeypunk
I agree we don't have the defense to sit back on leads, but that was more on Gardiner. A bouncing puck, with Pastrnak bearing down on you; It was a bad idea to pinch at that moment.

Nylander just decided to give the Leafs a serious hometown discount on his contract. 4.5 million for 8 years. (I wish) |

I don't think so, and I don't think Babs would agree either. They were on the ice for over a minute and Gardiner wanted to keep the pressure on. He had the right idea. |

Anderson's save percentage in this series: .880
Tukka Rask: .926
Any mystery as to why we are losing the series? To me the only game we have truly been dominated was game 1.
He has just not been nearly good enough. |

Holy poop I picked a bad time to come in here. 60 points is only a bad year if you expected 100 from him. Just because he didn't live up to your personal expectations doesn't mean he's a bad player. It was his second year in the NHL for christ sakes, and people want to trade him because he's not good enough? Only sixty points. Not good enough. (frank) off. |

not fair to blame it all on Ander5on, the leafs D takes a lot of chances and gives very good scoring chances. |

If leafs did NOT play a physical team
Matthews and nylander would DOMINATE
they are NO match for heavy physical BEATINGS
leafs would do better against lightning |

Did I mention Martin? I said zip about bringing in Martin...need the players in the lineup to do more then just skate around....need to bang their D every chance...just like every other team seems to be doing in the PO's. |

Well it might end up helping signing him for cheaper than his potential value.
But I must say, unlike Marner for exemple, his showing in the playoffs, despite playing with Matthews.... I don't like it.
Then again, could also be the inexperience and he'll bounce back next season. |

The Leafs got a lot of good scoring chances too though, the only difference is Boston buries theirs and Toronto doesn't. Good scoring chances or not, the goalie needs to come up with a save to help their team out. Andersen did that IMO in game 3, and game 3 only. There were a lot of scoring chances for Boston (more than game 4, it seemed) but he made a lot of good saves. |

The 2nd goal was all on Gardiner. Terrible pinch. Pastrnak fooled zaitsev with the fakes shot then pass, cause thats what good players like Pastrnak do. - PatC80
nah it's all on Gardiner or Zaitsev, it's both of them. You can also add Matthews to it as well. |
