Hamhuis?

Its behind them enough to do business.

- boonerbuck

What? Dallas tried to screw the Canucks over. If anything the Hamhuis offer (a 4th imo) created more animosity.

That's a great point, I would guess he will get one them and likely will have his pick unless another big name like Trotz hits the market
- neem55

Apparently Bill Peters has a window to execute an out-clause in his contract, he has a decent reputation, and so does Boucher if he gets fired. None have had the success AV has had though, so I'd expect him to get a large deal

I'd be surprised if Trotz got fired. I know failing to win in the playoffs will likely be the reason, but that Caps team are perennial chokers regardless of coach. That squad is ready for a major retool

Vigneault looking prime to cash in. Not many proven coaches available and two contending hopefuls in Dallas and Calgary will be looking for someone like him
- WhiteLie

Maybe AV can back up Green here for a season or two...

Calgary needs a veteran coach, Dave Tippett would do well there imo.

It's possible he does though, as they don't seem willing to deal OV. Love the team, but agree they are seriously shot in terms of confidence/leadership in the playoffs. Backstrom and OV have got to go even though they are both incredible regular season guys and may even win elsewhere. OV in the West could be scary.

He's another option, but I wasnt sure his style would suit the team they have. Apparently the team didnt respond well to Gulutzan when he was being a hardass

I do think you hit the nail on the head with AV, seems like a great fit to me with that talented D corps

Its a really tough situation, but the writing is on the wall with that defense. Its getting thinner every year and they need to flip something upfront to pay for it. Oshie's contract is untradeable and OV is nearing that territory given his cap hit and age, Backstrom might be the one they'd want to keep but could probably fetch quite a bit

For me it’s not about that, systems is Tippetts thing, you play his system and you can win.

I never felt Gully was a systems guy. Tippett preaches defence, something Calgary needs.

Honestly I don’t care who coaches them I just think the right guy might get more outta that group.

Wouldn't it be something if the Flames hired WD.

from Gulutzen to WD... based on his olympics, not sure WD is getting anything above AHL.

For me, hes from the same mold at Hitchcock, strict to his systems and a hardass about it. I think the group there is very talented but that Tippet still might not be able to draw enough offense out of him.

Who knows though, Tippet could only coached that way since Arizona didnt have the horses to compete so had to lock it down

He's definitely still got it, but that cap hit is (soon to be) 7th highest in the league, and runs until he's 35. I just dont know how long he can sustain that level for and I am sure those worries would drop his value to others

hmm yeah that's a good point if his cap is really getting that high. I think it would get done, but only so many teams could do it. Could see a young team like the Canes or Florida going for him. Canes have the guys to get a deal done with a lot of teams, I expect them to be very aggressive this offseason with new GM.
