I was just thinking about that, I remember all the high hits they were giving the Canucks, especially the twins. I guess they are immune to getting caught.

They did it to Leafs, quite often in that game 7, one shift I counted 3 boarding hits, two cross checks and one high stick, then they scored.

Bruins just do so much in a game that the refs feel like they’re going to look biased if they call even 50% of it. So they let them get away with it.

It’s a legitimately effective strategy. Start that way from the beginning of the season, take the few extra Ls when everyone is getting their feet wet still, and by playoff time, you’ll get away with whatever.

I think the opposite is true for the Leafs- they’re such a high profile team, hated by so many, that they get extra attention. I don’t think it’s a concerted effort to be biased against the Leafs- it’s just a fear of being seen as biased towards them.

Marner better than Draisaitl? Maybe, I remember someone on here last year saying Marner in trade was worth a #1 defender. I countered, pointing out Hall only got Larsson....the response was “ Marner is much better than Hall”.

Don't think that's is what he said, he pointed in the opposite end of the ice referencing the hit in the first games plus other high hits that went uncalled including the hit on Marner the second game, he said it has happened three times, hence holding up three fingers.

Watch the video, he does not say suspension or three games. He was showing the forearm and elbow coming up on hits.

I watched the clip a few times, I'm pretty sure that is what he was referring to.

It’s funny- when it was taking a while to sign Marner and Matthews, trolls were chirping about how Lou was going to low-ball them, and make them ask for a trade. Now it’s that he’s going to give the trio massive contracts that will handcuff the Leafs forever.

Lou has a history of driving a hard bargain. The trio only really have the options of signing or sitting out for a year, and they all seem like they love it here. Marner has the worst agent of the bunch, but he’s also the most closely tied to the city, and doesn’t seem to have the personality to demand a trade or sit out.

I think we’re good. Plus, the cap keeps climbing. Even when there was a lockout and it dropped, it bounced right back and higher in just a few seasons. Whatever contract these guys sign will look like a steal in 2-3 years. By then the raise in cap would have likely covered one of their entire salaries.
